    Job Summary:

    The Events and Communication Officer (ECO) supports the Granite Education Foundation's mission in meeting the organization's financial, programmatic, event, and community engagement goals. The ECO oversees assigned events and communication needs. This includes overseeing the Granite School District EXCEL Teacher Awards and assisting with other events. The successful candidate will also collaborate with other staff members on social media, partner/donor reports, and other communication strategies. The ECO will also assist in other organization objectives to further the work of the Granite Education Foundation and Granite School District.

    Essential Functions:

    • Coordinates and oversees the operational management of assigned events.
    • Plans the delivery of the overall assigned events and their activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the GEF.
    • Gathers data to create reports to ensure partner/donor satisfaction.
    • Develops and provides monthly, quarterly, and annual event reports.
    • Ensures that event activities operate within the policies and procedures of the GEF and the Granite School District.
    • Ensures that event activities comply with all relevant policies and professional standards.
    • Collaboratively develops efficient and sustainable structures for assigned events.
    • Collaborates with the GEF Team.
    • Supervises hourly programs/event workers.
    • Attends Granite Education Foundation Board meetings and;
      • takes notes at the meetings;
      • sends notes out to GEF Board Members and other stake holders as needed; and
      • facilitates the online option for Board Meeting attendance via relevant technology.
    • Identifies, schedules, and attends outreach events that increase the visibility of GEF's mission and shares information about all GEF activities.
    • Collaborates on all written event strategies relating to GEF activities; i.e. outlining event details, event announcements, etc.
    • Collaboratively develops new channels and tools, e.g. email, interactive website, social media, targeted mailings, etc., for accessing, understanding, and recruiting community and volunteer engagement in partnership with the GEF Development and Program and Volunteer Directors.
    • Collaboratively engages with committees, community, staff, and volunteers

    • Proficient in Microsoft 365, Google Suite, design software, and fundraising databases, e.g. Salesforce.

    • Ability to attend trainings, meetings, and events as required, even if scheduled outside normal working hours.
    • Understanding of the nature and purpose of Granite Education Foundation and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.
    • Ability to physically assist, when necessary, with event set-up and breakdown.

    Required Education and Qualifications:

    • Requires a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally-accredited institution.
    • A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, journalism, business management, or related area preferred.

    Required Prior Experience:

    • Prior experience in a related area is preferred.

    Note: The District reserves the right to make specific requirements for this position, however, when prior work experience has been evaluated to be particularly pertinent, some exchanges between training and experience might be authorized.

    Assigned Decision Making:

    • Organizes and prioritizes own work.

    Non-supervisory Interaction:

    • Interacts and collaborates with GEF staff, Board members, other departments in the district office, school prinicpals and secretaries, teachers, and patrons.

    Supervisory Responsibility:

    • Supervises hourly program and event workers.

    Working Environment:

    • Work takes place in a typical office environment.
    • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
    • Works independently while dealing with frequent interruptions that stop current work to resolve problems.

    • Requires occasional work during evening and weekend hours.
