Job Description Summary
This position—housed in the Center for Access & Advocacy—reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement & Retention. This position involves a collaborative, student-centered process that identifies and addresses academic, social, and emotional challenges affecting student persistence. The Specialist researches student issues, develops targeted strategies, and assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates appropriate services and interventions.
Characterized by advocacy, effective communication, collaboration, and resource coordination, this role provides timely outreach to students identified through CARE Connections submitted by faculty, staff, and students. By working closely with campus departments and community partners, the Care Specialist ensures that students are connected to the resources they need by promoting support, removing barriers to success, and contributing to improved retention and academic outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree.
Three (3) years related experience.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook.
Capacity to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community partners.
Able to work as part of a team using a student-centered motivational interviewing and solution-focused framework to promote student persistence through to completion.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Counseling, Student Development/Student Affairs, or Social Work.
Familiar with local social services and community resource agencies.
Experience working with at-risk student populations.
