About the Role

The Grants Writer plays a vital, mission-driven role in advancing the work of BGCLAH by helping secure the philanthropic resources that make our impact possible.

This position is responsible for researching, writing, and supporting the submission of compelling grant proposals, reports, and related materials that clearly articulate the needs, programs, and outcomes of our Clubs. Working closely with the Chief Development & External Relations Officer and the Grants Administrator, the Grants Writer translates program impact into persuasive narratives that inspire funders to invest in the success of young people—especially those who need us most.

This is a full-time, hourly position and an excellent opportunity for a strong writer who is passionate about youth development, equity, and mission-centered storytelling.

What You'll Do

  • Research, write, and support the submission of high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and narratives
  • Translate program goals, outcomes, and data into clear, compelling, and mission-aligned grant narratives
  • Customize proposals to align with funder priorities while maintaining consistency with organizational voice and strategy
  • Collaborate with program staff, finance, and leadership to gather information, budgets, and supporting documentation
  • Partner with the Grants Administrator to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely submission of grant materials
  • Assist with grant reports, renewals, and funder updates that demonstrate accountability and impact
  • Conduct prospect research to identify new funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities
  • Help document outcomes, success stories, and lessons learned for funders
  • Support continuous improvement of grant templates, narratives, and internal processes
  • Stay current on best practices, trends, and compliance standards in nonprofit grant writing

What You'll Bring

You are a thoughtful and detail-oriented writer who believes in the power of storytelling to open doors for young people. You bring curiosity, discipline, and collaboration to your work—and understand that every well-crafted proposal helps expand opportunity for the communities we serve.

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, public administration, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred but not required
  • 1–3 years of grant writing or relevant nonprofit writing experience preferred
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to synthesize complex programmatic and financial information into clear, compelling narratives
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard computer applications; familiarity with grants management systems a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively while also managing independent assignments
  • Commitment to youth development, equity, and mission-driven work
  • CPR/First Aid certification (provided upon hire)

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to Club sites or local meetings
  • Must be able to sit, walk, and use a computer for extended periods
  • Comfortable managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
