Graphic Design Instructor (Part-Time Independent Contractor)

About the Program

The League of Extraordinary Designers (LXD), powered by Soulville Creative and Urban Enrichment Institute, is a creative education program designed to introduce boys ages 12–17 to graphic design, entrepreneurship, and real-world creative career pathways in an engaging and supportive environment.

We are looking for a creative, dependable, and community-minded Graphic Design Instructor who is passionate about mentoring youth and helping students build confidence through design.

ScheduleSummer Program

• Monday–Thursday
• 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Fall/Spring Program

• Monday–Thursday
• 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Additional planning meetings or showcase/event support may occasionally be required.

Responsibilities

• Teach beginner to intermediate graphic design concepts and workflows
• Guide students through hands-on creative projects and activities
• Foster a fun, structured, and engaging classroom environment
• Support students in developing creativity, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Maintain attendance and basic student progress documentation
• Collaborate with program leadership on curriculum implementation and classroom needs
• Assist with student showcase preparation and occasional field trips/events

QualificationsRequired

• Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially:
• Photoshop
• Illustrator
• InDesign
• English speaking and communication proficiency required
• Reliable transportation required
• Must be able to reliably commute to the program location in Houston
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Dependable, punctual, and professional
• Comfortable working with middle and high school-aged students

Preferred

• Prior teaching, mentoring, coaching, or youth development experience
• Portfolio of creative work
• Interest in creative entrepreneurship, branding, or digital media

Important Position Details

• This is an in-person position only (not remote or hybrid)
• This position is classified as an Independent Contractor (1099)
• Contractors are responsible for their own taxes and transportation
• Hours may vary slightly depending on program needs and events
