Primary Purpose
Provide leadership and coordination for districtwide communications, marketing, recruitment, branding, and community engagement efforts. Promote the mission, vision, and goals of Dumas ISD through effective storytelling, strategic communication, and public relations initiatives. Support employee recruitment and retention efforts, strengthen community partnerships, highlight student and staff achievements, and ensure consistent communication across all campuses and departments.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
- Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Education, Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of communication, marketing, and public relations practices
- Ability to develop and implement strategic communication plans
- Knowledge of social media platforms, digital marketing, and website management
- Proficiency with graphic design, photography, video production, and content creation tools
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to work collaboratively with district leaders, campus administrators, staff, students, parents, media representatives, and community members
Experience
- Experience in communications, marketing, public relations, education, human resources, or related field preferred
- Experience working in a public school district preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Strategic Communications
- Develop and implement a comprehensive district communication plan aligned with Board priorities and district strategic goals.
- Coordinate internal and external communications to ensure accurate, timely, and consistent messaging.
- Support district leadership with communication initiatives related to academics, student achievement, operations, safety, and strategic priorities.
- Assist in the development of communication materials for the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, and district leadership team.
- Support district communication efforts during emergency situations and crisis response events.
- Maintain communication standards that promote transparency, trust, and community confidence.
Recruitment and Employee Branding
- Collaborate with Human Resources to develop and implement recruitment marketing strategies.
- Design and coordinate recruitment materials, campaigns, and promotional content that showcase Dumas ISD as an employer of choice.
- Support district recruitment fairs, university partnerships, Grow Your Own initiatives, and employee recognition efforts.
- Promote employee accomplishments, district culture, leadership development opportunities, and retention initiatives.
- Assist in strengthening the district's reputation as a destination district for educators and support staff.
Community Engagement and Public Relations
- Build positive relationships with parents, community organizations, businesses, civic groups, and local media.
- Promote district initiatives, accomplishments, and opportunities through proactive communication and outreach.
- Coordinate community engagement activities that strengthen stakeholder involvement and support district goals.
- Serve as a resource for community inquiries and direct requests to appropriate district personnel.
- Assist with public information campaigns and districtwide events.
Digital Communications and Social Media
- Manage and monitor official district social media platforms and digital communication channels.
- Create and publish engaging content highlighting academics, athletics, fine arts, Career and Technical Education (CTE), student organizations, and district initiatives.
- Analyze engagement data and communication metrics to improve effectiveness and audience reach.
- Provide guidance and support to campuses regarding social media practices and district communication expectations.
- Maintain consistency in district branding, messaging, and visual identity across all digital platforms.
Student Achievement and Program Promotion
- Collaborate with campus and district leaders to showcase student success and staff excellence.
- Promote academic programs, college and career readiness initiatives, CTE programs, extracurricular activities, athletics, fine arts, and community partnerships.
- Develop content highlighting innovative practices, student accomplishments, scholarships, certifications, and workforce readiness opportunities.
- Coordinate recognition efforts that celebrate the achievements of students and employees.
Student Media and Leadership Opportunities
- Partner with Career and Technical Education programs to provide authentic learning experiences for students through district communication projects.
- Utilize qualified student interns, practicum students, and student organizations to support photography, videography, graphic design, and content creation efforts when appropriate.
- Provide guidance and oversight to ensure all student-produced materials meet district standards and expectations.
- Expand opportunities for students to develop leadership, communication, and workforce-ready skills through participation in district communication initiatives.
Publications and Multimedia
- Coordinate the development and production of district publications, newsletters, annual reports, brochures, presentations, and promotional materials.
- Maintain a digital library of district photographs, videos, and communication assets.
- Coordinate photography and videography coverage for district events and activities.
- Ensure all publications and communication materials reflect district branding standards and professional expectations.
Other Duties
- Attend district events, Board meetings, recruitment activities, community functions, and student events as assigned.
- Maintain compliance with district policies, administrative procedures, FERPA requirements, copyright laws, and public information standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent or Superintendent
Supervisory Responsibilities
Coordinate and oversee communication-related projects, student interns (if possible), volunteers, and contracted services as assigned.

Frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, hearing, and use of technology. Occasional lifting and carrying of communication equipment and materials. Travel between district facilities and community locations as needed.

Occasional evening and weekend work required for district events, Board meetings, athletic contests, graduation ceremonies, recruitment activities, and community engagement events.
