Position Summary and Key Responsibilities

The Graphic Designer ensures McKendree’s brand and visual storytelling are cohesive, accessible, and consistently applied across all materials. This role blends hands-on creative design with systemized support for campus partners — helping the university express its identity clearly and confidently in every medium.
The Graphic Designer will provide support and direction on all areas of graphic design with priority given to recruitment, retention, and revenue generation, in that order. This role safeguards McKendree’s visual integrity while making high-quality design more accessible across campus — helping the university present a unified, professional, and recognizable identity.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop creative concepts and produce print and digital materials that reflect and strengthen McKendree’s brand.
  • Maintain brand standards, creative templates, and visual systems that enable consistent design across departments.
  • Manage McKendree’s digital asset management platform and ensure on-brand assets are easily accessible to campus users.
  • Partner with departments to support key institutional initiatives and assist with the creation of promotional materials for events, programs, and campaigns.
  • Provide creative direction and coordination for photography, videography, and other visual assets.
  • Ensure accessibility and inclusivity are reflected in all design work and visual materials.
  • Review and approve creative materials produced by other departments and offices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, commercial art, or related field.
  • 3 years of professional work-related experience in conceptualizing, designing, and producing print and digital materials within complex organizations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency with Mac computer and publication software, particularly Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design), Acrobat, and File Transfer Protocol (FTP) procedures, as well as HTML5 and CSS.
  • Experience designing promotional materials, both print and web-based.
  • Proficiency with photo management platforms.
  • Creativity, initiative and independence in carrying out responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of campus constituencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 years of relevant design experience in the marketing, advertising, or interactive industry.
  • Proficiency with Canva as an enterprise system.
  • Design work within higher education.
  • Knowledge of design process, printing methods, production techniques, specification of time, camera-ready art preparation, and printing supervision.
  • Strong trouble-shooting skills in the areas of printing, pre-press, and computer software.
  • Illustration skills.

Work Conditions

WORK HOURS/CONDITIONS:
Positive office environment; 40 hours per week; normally 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; some evenings and weekend work required.
