MWI Graphic Designer

Responsibilities:

  • Take photographs of MWI products on-site
  • Perform independently and collaboratively with vendors, co-workers, and freelancers
  • Perform the entire graphic design process through research, design, and implementation
  • Manage the MWI product image database and update product descriptions
  • Manage product handling, image printouts, and progress reports
  • Manipulate product images and image composites for quality control and consistency
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned such as help with ad design, package design, web design, batch processing and automations, product research, and data entry

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate consistent graphic design skills, organizational skills, and communication skills
  • Must be highly proficient in English language skills for both in-person and off-site communication
  • Must have thorough knowledge of Windows OS and Adobe Photoshop
  • Must have basic knowledge operating multiple web browsers and sending email
  • Must have intermediate skills in digital photography
  • Must have basic knowledge of smoke shops and be comfortable working in one
  • Must be a proficient troubleshooter and researcher
  • Must be able to tailor photography and designs based on specific guidelines and be able to constructively work with multiple opinions while working independently and collaboratively
  • Must demonstrate professionalism and be able to easily work with an internationally diverse team of co-workers from various nations of origin, religions, native languages, races, ethnicities, and other legally protected backgrounds
  • Must have consistent means of transportation
  • Must have very high attention to detail during the photography process, design process, routine processes, organizing, researching, and proofreading
  • Must be able to prioritize, work on multiple projects simultaneously, work with both flexible and hard deadlines, and communicate project progress and questions effectively
  • (Preferred) Be familiar with batch processing, automations, and Excel formulas
  • (Preferred) Be familiar with product photography, Monday.com, and database systems

Education and Experience:

  • Must have an equivalent combination of experience, education and an updated portfolio of work presenting a skillful display of relevant understanding, skills and abilities pertaining to photography, graphic design, or a closely related field
  • (Preferred) Have an associate degree or bachelor’s degree in photography or graphic design
  • 1-2 years of professional experience required

Compensation:
$17-$20 per hour. Hourly wages will be based on how well the applicant's experience meet the needs and requirements described in this job description.

Payroll is paid weekly via direct deposit.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands
MWI is the largest business-to-business (B2B) wholesaler distributor of smoke shop products in Texas with 10,000+ unique products, 200+ brands, and 50+ categories. We offer online as well as cash-and-carry sales to businesses all over the United States with the highest concentration of customers located in Houston and the state of Texas. Our nondescript building is located a few blocks from the intersection of Beltway 8 and Westpark Tollway in a business suite and houses our company offices, showroom, and warehouse. Our offices feature easily accessible restrooms and break room, ample adjacent parking, informal office clothing recommended, and dual-monitor powerful computers for the Graphics Department and administrators.

As a smoke shop wholesaler, we are part of an industry with constantly shifting rules and regulations. We will help guide you through any changes.

Work will be performed primarily in an air-conditioned office environment that will involve extended sitting and computer use along with periodic retrieval of products from our air-conditioned warehouse. On-site activities are monitored 24/7 for safety and security of our employees, facility, and products. This position is in-person only that does not allow for remote work.

  • 401(k) and 401(k) Matching – MWI offers a company-sponsored retirement plan that allocates a portion of weekly pay to personal 401(k) savings. Additionally, MWI will contribute additional savings compensation by matching 100% for up to 4% of personally allocated savings each week. Our 401(k) plan is available to full-time employees after 180 days of service.
  • Medical, Dental , and Vision Insurance – MWI provides employee and dependent coverage with multiple options. Insurance coverage is paid for at 50% of the employee’s premium for a full-time employee. Insurance becomes available and affective the first full month after 60 days of service.

Holidays and Time Off at MWI

  • Paid Time Off (PTO) – Full-time MWI employees may use PTO for planned work absences including doctor’s appointments, vacation, and personal leave. PTO hours accrue weekly and are based on employment status, length of employment, and total hours worked. Any unused PTO is paid out at the end of the year. PTO is available to full-time employees after 90 days of service. Up to 40 hours are allocated per calendar year after first 90 days of service based on hours worked.
  • Unpaid Time Off – All MWI employees have access to unpaid time off with prior written authorization.
  • Holidays – Full-time MWI employees receive 6 paid holidays per year including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, U.S. Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Paid holidays are given to full-time employees after 90 days of service.
