Graphic Designer (Adobe InDesign Specialist)

ROLE OVERVIEW

Kifayat Publishers is looking for a skilled Graphic Designer with strong expertise in Adobe InDesign to join our busy Design & Production department. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in book layout, typesetting, and print-ready file preparation for academic and trade publications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and typeset academic textbooks, workbooks, and trade books using Adobe InDesign.

• Prepare print-ready files adhering to publishing specifications including bleed, margins, and colour profiles.

• Create covers, chapter openers, infographics, and educational illustrations for publications.

• Work closely with the Editorial and Academic teams to lay out manuscripts to house style standards.

• Manage multiple book production projects simultaneously within agreed timelines.

• Ensure consistency of typography, spacing, and visual hierarchy across all publications.

• Prepare files for digital formats including PDF, ePub, and screen-optimised layouts.

• Liaise with printers for pre-press checks, colour proofing, and print production sign-off.

• Maintain an organised archive of all design files with proper version control.

• Support the marketing team with catalogue design, flyers, posters, and exhibition materials.

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 3–4 years of professional graphic design experience with a strong focus on book design and typesetting.

• Expert-level proficiency in Adobe InDesign is mandatory.

• Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

• Experience in academic or trade book publishing is highly preferred.

• Knowledge of Urdu/Arabic typography and RTL typesetting is a significant advantage.

KEY SKILLS

• Expert typesetting and book layout skills in Adobe InDesign.

• Strong understanding of print production processes and pre-press requirements.

• Excellent eye for typography, colour, and visual composition.

• Ability to follow and maintain strict house style guidelines.

• Strong time management and ability to handle multiple book projects simultaneously.

• Knowledge of Urdu Naskh/Nastaleeq fonts and InPage compatibility is a plus.
