Graphic Designer (DC Metro)

Innovative Technologies Corporation (ITC) is seeking two (2) Graphic Designers to support a proposal for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) research communications and publications program.

Work may be performed from the FHWA office in McLean, Virginia, a Washington, DC office, or another designated office, depending on Government requirements.

The Graphic Designers will conceptualize, design, and produce professional layouts and visual materials for magazines, newsletters, technical reports, infographics, social media, web content, exhibits, and promotional products. The role requires strong publication design expertise, technical production skills, and the ability to make complex research information visually clear and accessible.

Clearance and Suitability

None. This is an unclassified position. The selected candidate must be able to successfully complete any required USDOT suitability processing and obtain a Government-issued Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential if required for facility or system access.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communications, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional graphic design experience, including print and electronic layout.
  • Expert proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Advanced knowledge of typography, grid systems, layout principles, branding, and publication design.
  • Experience designing complex publications, reports, brochures, posters, covers, templates, or comparable materials.
  • Experience selecting, retouching, cropping, sizing, and preparing photographs or graphics for production.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility and production quality-control practices.
  • Working knowledge of both Windows and Mac operating systems.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting technical periodicals, magazines, scientific publications, or research reports.
  • Federal Government design or publishing experience.
  • Transportation, engineering, or research communications experience.
  • Experience creating infographics, diagrams, line art, illustrations, logos, exhibits, or social media assets.
  • Photography experience and familiarity with copyright licensing or permissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design covers, layouts, graphics, templates, and visual components for magazines, newsletters, technical reports, brochures, posters, and digital products.
  • Combine text, photographs, charts, illustrations, and data into balanced and effective visual communications.
  • Create or enhance diagrams, line art, logos, infographics, and other supplemental graphics.
  • Manage projects through concept development, layout, revision, production, and final delivery.
  • Retouch, crop, resize, and prepare photographs and figures for print and digital use.
  • Maintain version control and perform production quality checks.
  • Ensure products follow program branding, Federal publishing standards, and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Coordinate with writers, editors, researchers, technical staff, and production personnel.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this contingent-hire position is $68,000-$76,000, based on qualifications and experience. ITC offers medical, dental, and vision benefits; 10 days of paid time off; 7 days of sick leave; and other available company benefits.

This is a contingent position for a proposal ITC is bidding on. ITC anticipates contract award before January 1, 2027. Published July 30, 2026. Additional information will be provided during the interview process.
