The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Creative and Design Specialist, the Graphic Designer conceptualizes and creates graphic designs, as well as layouts, and creates graphics and marketing materials for Advancement, Marketing & Engagement, various exhibitions, programs, and general needs of the museum. Consults with departments to develop high quality, cohesive, and visually compelling ideas and design elements while managing turnaround time and deadlines in concert with Sr. Creative and Design Specialist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Design For Advancement
- Creates layouts and graphics for print collateral, e-blasts, and digital display that align with the Museum’s brand and vision.
- Collaborate with various team members to develop, refine, proof, and obtain approval and delivery of graphic design solutions.
- Plan work by gathering and studying information and materials; illustrate the concept by designing rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size, and style, and related aesthetic concepts; obtains approval of concept by submitting rough layout for approval.
- Coordinate with outside agencies, art services, and printers.
- Manage design files and support digital archiving systems.
- Manages deadlines to deliver content with time for edits and approvals.
- Coordinate invoice processing with the Director of Advancement.
- Graphic design support for events like the Gala and other tasks as assigned.
Design for Marketing & Engagement
- Creates graphics for website, print collateral, e-blasts, and digital display that align with the Museum’s brand and vision.
- Offer graphics support for social media to ensure brand consistency, when necessary.
- Collaborate with various team members to develop, refine, proof, and obtain approval and delivery of graphic design solutions.
- Plan work by gathering and studying information and materials; illustrate the concept by designing rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size, and style, and related aesthetic concepts; obtains approval of concept by submitting rough layout for approval.
- Coordinate with outside agencies, art services, and printers.
- Manage design files and support digital archiving systems.
- Manages deadlines to deliver content with time for edits and approvals.
- Coordinate invoice processing with the Director of Marketing & Engagement.
- Order and maintain marketing materials such as promotional items, brochures, etc.
Design for Program and Events
- Implement design solutions for programming and events that are creative, appropriate, and consistent with the Museum’s brand and vision, while conveying the aims, messages, and themes of the project.
- Work with relevant teams and Sr. Creative and Design Specialist to development, refinement, proofing, approval, and delivery of graphic design solutions for print, digital, display, and exhibitions.
- Coordinate with outside agencies, art services, and printers.
- Manage design files and support digital archiving systems.
- Manages deadlines to deliver content with time for edits and approvals.
- Order and maintain materials such as promotional items, brochures, etc.
Design & Exhibition Support
- Helps support Sr. Creative and Design specialist with design and typographic layout of exhibition didactics, where appropriate.
- Fabricates scale miniatures of exhibition objects as specified by Sr. Creative and Design Specialist.
- Creates graphics for website, print collateral, e-blasts, and digital display that align with the rotating exhibition’s brand and vision.
- Coordinate with outside agencies, art services, and printers on quotes for MAG Swag or other needs
- Coordinate invoice processing with the Sr. Creative and Design Specialist.
General museum design (CW, Council, Store, Brown Hound)
- Implement design solutions for departments including Brown Hound, Creative Workshop, THE STORE @ MAG, and the Gallery Council that are creative, appropriate, and consistent with the Museum’s brand and vision, while conveying the aims, messages, and themes of the project.
- Work with departments for development, refinement, proofing, approval, and delivery of graphic design solutions for print, digital, display, and exhibitions.
- Coordinate with outside agencies, art services, and printers.
- Manage design files and support digital archiving systems.
- Manages deadlines to deliver content with time for edits and approvals.
- Help maintain and run wide format printer, printing for various department needs, including mounting and finishing.
- Help ensure brand standards and design consistency with the Sr. Creative and Design Specialist.
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field of study required.
- 1 – 2 years of graphic design experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Or commensurate design experience as showcased in a portfolio required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
High proficiency and productivity in the below-mentioned software.
- MS Office
- Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
- Strong understanding of industry trends , composition, typography, and layout for design in both digital and print .
- Superb organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple assignments and respond quickly and calmly to tight deadlines.
- Understanding of marketing fundamentals.
- Occasional evening and weekend hours. Ability and interest in supporting the department’s initiatives and programs.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- An understanding of wide format printing , animation, video, and 3D software not required but a plus preferred.
