Salary: 17.21p/hWork Schedule: Varies, limited to 1000 hours per year
Location: Beautiful greenways and gardens across Greensboro, NC.
Important Information About Roster Positions
Thank you for considering a roster position with the City of Greensboro! These positions are an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to our community. Please review the details below to ensure you understand the nature of roster employment:
- Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
- Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.
- Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.
While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

About the Role
As a key member of the Greenway and Gardens staff, you’ll play an essential role in maintaining and enhancing Greensboro's outdoor spaces. Your responsibilities include:- Landscaping tasks such as planting, pruning, mowing, edging, and weed control.
- Maintaining greenway and garden areas, ensuring cleanliness and accessibility.
- Turf grass management and ornamental plant care.
- Using hand tools and equipment like pruners, blowers, weed eaters, and edgers.
- Physically demanding work, including repetitive bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds safely in all weather conditions.
This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Qualifications
What You Bring
Minimum Qualifications:- Valid Driver’s License
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- 1-3 years Landscape Maintenance Experience
- Experience with ornamental plant identification and care
- North Carolina Pesticide License
- 4+ years of landscape maintenance experience
