Grounds Laborer

Position Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to assist the Grounds Foreman in the Grounds Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department

Supervision:

This position will primarily receive direction from the Grounds Foreman.

Essential Duties:

• Mow grass and trim bushes and trees on town property and right-of ways including on alleyways, roads, signage, and other areas as instructed.
• Install and maintain Christmas Decorations and Lights provided by Town.
• Setup and Prepare areas for Events and assist event coordinator at events.
• Clean, maintain and organize various storage locations owned by the Town.
• Provide “handyman” service for the Police Department and Town Hall.
• Provide assistance to Sanitation Division when needed for trash pickup and limb pickup.
• Responsible for regular cleaning of vehicles to maintain professional and clean presentation.

Job Environment:

Work is performed during the day usually from early morning to midafternoon. Personal safety equipment and apparel will be provided and must be used.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

High school education or GED.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:

General knowledge of the principles and practices of operating medium to heavy equipment; general knowledge of the traffic laws; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of equipment; care in the operation of the equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

All activities will be performed outside in the elements; however, personal protection equipment and safety apparel will be provided. Must be physically able to perform manual labor and lift and/ or carry weights of approximately one hundred pounds. May be required to travel on local streets at low speeds on the back of a refuse truck to increase efficiency in solid waste removal. Communicates verbally and in writing.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.25 - $15.75 per hour
