Grounds Laborer - Seasonal

Why This Role Matters
The Grounds Maintenance Laborer plays a vital role in maintaining safe, clean, and well-kept outdoor environments across industrial, commercial, and public properties. This position supports daily operations by ensuring landscapes are properly maintained, contributing to both the appearance and functionality of facilities while upholding safety and contract standards.
What You Will Do
Grounds Maintenance Operations (85%)
  • Perform routine grounds maintenance across sites such as parks, airports, playgrounds, athletic fields, and commercial or public facilities.
  • Operate gasoline-powered and manual landscaping tools to complete assigned tasks.
  • Cut grass using walk-behind or small riding mowers (under 2,000 lbs.).
  • Trim hedges and edges around walkways, plant beds, and designated areas using trimmers, clippers, and edging tools.
  • Operate string trimmers (“weed eaters”) for detailed landscape maintenance.
  • Prune shrubs and trees to maintain shape and promote healthy growth.
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs; cultivate and mulch planting beds.
  • Apply fertilizers and insecticides under supervision of a licensed applicator.
  • Water lawns and landscaping using hoses or irrigation systems.
  • Remove debris such as leaves, litter, and other materials from grounds.
  • Perform snow removal using shovels or snow blowers and apply salt to walkways and surfaces.
  • Assist with basic repairs including fences, gates, benches, and other outdoor structures.
  • Support maintenance of roads, walkways, buildings, and equipment as needed.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Stop work if hazards are identified and support overall safety compliance.
  • Deliver quality work in alignment with contract requirements, schedules, and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain professionalism, teamwork, and a positive work environment.
Administrative & Team Support (15%)
  • Follow company policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Complete required training and maintain compliance records.
  • Use materials and equipment efficiently to minimize waste.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented environment and support overall contract success.
  • Uphold company standards related to conduct, ethics, and workplace respect, including support of human rights policies.
Requirements:
What You Bring
Education & Experience
  • No formal education required.
  • Minimum of three (3) months of experience operating small mowing equipment and/or landscaping hand tools (powered or manual).
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required credentials and background checks (including airport access, if applicable).
  • Basic knowledge of landscaping tools and equipment operation.
  • Ability to perform minor equipment maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Dependable, hardworking, and professional in conduct and appearance.
