Grounds Worker

The City of Hibbing is seeking a Summer Grounds Workers to join our team in the City Services and Cemetery.

Cemetery:

Responsible for maintaining cemetery grounds in a respectful, safe, and aesthetically pleasing condition, including mowing, trimming around headstones and monuments, assisting with grave preparation (non-technical support), repairing and leveling turf, removing debris and decorations in accordance with cemetery policies, maintaining roadways and walkways, and supporting landscaping and planting efforts. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age, possess a valid Minnesota Class D driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and be able to work independently and as part of a team in all weather conditions. The ideal applicant demonstrates reliability, respectful behavior, and the ability to operate or learn to operate mowing and trimming equipment. City Services:

This is a seasonal position with employment anticipated to begin in May or June and continue through August or September, depending on operational needs and the successful candidate’s availability. The position is expected to work approximately 37–40 hours per week, with hours and schedule varying based on weather conditions, and departmental needs.

The City of Hibbing is seeking a Summer Seasonal Grounds Worker to support the maintenance and upkeep of City parks, athletic fields, public buildings, cemeteries as assigned, and other municipal properties. This position performs general grounds and facility maintenance, including cleaning and janitorial duties, operating and maintaining lawn mowers and other small equipment, assisting with golf course and athletic field preparation, landscaping tasks such as planting and watering, litter removal, and helping with special event setup and takedown . Responsibilities also include opening and closing facilities, inspecting for damages, and monitoring park users to ensure compliance with park rules . Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license with an acceptable driving record . The ideal applicant is dependable, able to work independently and as part of a team, and comfortable working both outdoors and indoors in all weather conditions while representing the City of Hibbing in a positive manner.

This is a seasonal position with employment anticipated to begin in May or June and continue through August or September, depending on operational needs and the successful candidate’s availability. The position is expected to work approximately 37–40 hours per week, with hours and schedule varying based on programming, weather conditions, and departmental needs. The City may also hire up to two additional seasonal employees to work approximately 20 hours per week during evening hours, depending on staffing needs.

These are temporary positions, not entitled to any fringe benefits. This position is eligible to accrue ESST in accordance with MN Statute 181.9446 and City Policy.
