    School District #6 is located in the famous Rogue River Valley of Southern Oregon, nestled between the Cascade and Siskiyou Mountain ranges. The area abounds with opportunities - natural, theatrical, musical, educational and athletic. The entire school district is being restructured with an eye toward further improving our already excellent program.

    HOURS: 8.0 hours per day

    COMPENSATION and BENEFITS:
    • $20.03 - $24.08, depending upon approved accepted experience
    • Longevity pay after completion of 6 years of employment
    • Annual COLA pay increase (as negotiated with Oregon School Employees Association)

    GROUNDSKEEPER 1
    Maintenance and Custodial Department


    Purpose: The Groundskeeper 1 helps ensure the beauty, functionality and safety of District grounds and athletic fields through the performance of various grounds maintenance and landscaping duties.

    Reports to: Director of Maintenance

    Indirectly Reports to: School Principal or Vice Principal

    Nature of Work: The Groundskeeper 1 performs work of a recurring nature under close supervision. The nature of the work requires following established policies and procedures.

    Supervision Exercised: No supervision exercised.

    Interface: Primarily interfaces with school administrators, school personnel and students.

    Essential Job Functions:
    • Maintains District grounds in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
    • Cuts, edges, mows, trims and removes grass.
    • Prunes trees and other shrubbery to maintain their shape and improve growth.
    • Picks up litter, sweeps walkways, removes leaves and performs other basic maintenance tasks as needed.
    • Operates safely a variety of light and heavy power equipment, including tractors, turf vacuums, lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, weed eaters and leaf blowers.
    • Maintains groundskeeping equipment in proper working condition, including performing minor maintenance work and light engine repair as needed.
    • Prepares athletic fields for practices, games and other events by laying out lines and other markings in accordance with established specifications.
    • Operates irrigation equipment and repairs sprinklers as needed.
    • Applies fertilizers and pest control chemicals in accordance with established procedures and safety protocols.
    • Maintains effective and respectful working relationships with staff and students.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Must have demonstrated experience in landscaping or a related field.
    • Must pass a criminal background check.
    • Must be able to read, write, understand and follow multi-step written and verbal instructions in English.
    • Must possess a valid Oregon pesticide applicator license.

    Working Conditions:
    The Groundskeeper 1 works mostly outdoors, in all kinds of weather and occasionally in the dark. Most of the work involves activities of a physical nature. Seasonal weather-related activity such as cleaning leaves in the fall, ice and snow in the winter and window cleaning in the summer months may require prolonged work time outside.

    The incumbent will be regularly exposed to odors, fumes, oil, grease, dirt and dust, as well as inclement weather. Other potential hazards include but are not limited to pesticide chemicals, sharp objects, power equipment and slippery surfaces.

    The Groundskeeper 1 will spend most work hours standing, and will in the course of the workday regularly be required to bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, reach and climb ladders – sometimes for prolonged periods. The incumbent must possess the physical strength and dexterity necessary to operate various types of groundskeeping equipment and be able to repeatedly lift 50 lbs. independently and more than 50 lbs. with assistance.
