We're hiring a dependable, hard-working crew member for a full-time, year-round position keeping a 24-building suburban apartment complex in DeKalb looking sharp in every season. Spring through fall, you'll be on a small grounds crew. Winter, you're part of the snow and ice team keeping residents safe.
This is a hands-on outdoor job. Good attitude, reliability, and showing up when the weather is bad matter as much as experience. We'll train you on every piece of equipment.
What You'll Do — Growing Season (April – November):
- Trash pickup throughout the property — parking lots, sidewalks, common areas, playgrounds, around buildings
- Maintain dumpster areas — clear loose trash, sweep pads, deodorize, keep enclosures presentable
- Trim and shape bushes, hedges, and shrubs around buildings, entrances, and common areas
- Mow turf with commercial zero-turn mowers; weed-whack around buildings, fences, beds, and bushes
- Edge walks, drives, and curbs; blow lots and walkways clean
- General grounds cleanup — leaves, branches, debris, storm cleanup
- Light bed maintenance — weeding, mulch touch-up, clearing storm drains
What You'll Do — Winter (November – March):
- Snow removal from parking lots, drives, sidewalks, stairs, and building entrances
- Salt and de-ice sidewalks, stairs, building entries, and any slick spots
- Shovel and snow-blow areas plows can't reach
- Pre-treat surfaces before forecast storms
- Respond to on-call snow events — including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays when storms hit
- Clear snow from dumpster areas, mailbox areas, and emergency exits
- Inspect property after storms; address any hazards
- Keep snow and ice gear (shovels, spreaders, snow blowers) clean and ready
- Off-storm winter days: equipment maintenance, repairs, hand-trimming dormant shrubs, general property upkeep
What We're Looking For:
- Dependable — shows up on time, every day, including when it's snowing
- Available for on-call snow response November through March (early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays as needed)
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather — heat, cold, snow, rain
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs, walk/stand all day, bend, kneel, shovel snow for extended periods
- Valid driver's license preferred
- Able to follow directions and work as a team
- Landscaping, grounds, or snow removal experience a plus — not required, we'll train
- Must pass a basic background check
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
What We Offer:
- Year-round full-time work — steady paycheck every week, not seasonal
- Consistent Mon–Fri schedule April–November; on-call snow rotation December–March
- On-call snow pay — premium rate for storm-response hours
- Paid training on all equipment: commercial mowers, trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, snow blowers, salt spreaders, plows
- Provided PPE — gloves, eye and ear protection, hi-vis shirts, winter gear
- Same property every day — no constant driving between job sites
- Friendly small-crew environment
- Performance bonuses for crews that hit quality and efficiency targets
- Path to grow into a Crew Leader role ($20–22/hr)
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
