Groundskeeper II (Immediate Opening)

Terms of

  • 240 days per year.
  • At-Will employment agreement.
  • Salary is in the pay grade N02 on the Non-

Exempt SAISD Compensation Plan.

  • Entry hourly rate is at $16.75 with consideration
for directly related experience.

Position Summary

To assist in the attainment of District goals through the provision of effective and efficient grounds keeping
services.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

1. Perform all assigned sport fields and grounds keeping duties.
2. Operate riding and push lawn mowers, weed eaters, edgers, trimmers, pruning tools, chainsaw, backpack

blower and other powered/non-powered landscape related tools.
3. Operate tractor and various implements including aerator, brush hog, mulcher-shredder, or auger.
4. Perform basic custodial duties to include cleaning athletic facilities such as bleachers, press box, dressing

rooms, restrooms, parking lot, etc.
5. Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected

for this position.

Minimum Requirements

  • 1 year experience as a groundskeeper or equivalent experience in a construction trade.
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee
(approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.


Preferred Requirements

  • Two years’ experience as a groundskeeper or equivalent experience in a construction trade.
  • Experience with turf grasses used on athletic fields.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to safely load/unload tractors on to/off trailers and/or operate on city streets.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures related to equipment use is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform driver duties as permitted under Class C Driver’s License; operate vans,
pick-up trucks, etc.

punctuality, and confidentiality.

Working Conditions

Work Environment:

  • Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and
equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional
exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.


Physical Demands/Requirements:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines; frequent sitting,
standing, walking, climbing, balancing, pulling and pushing; reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing,
speaking clearly, visual acuity and prolonged data input; occasional lift/carry light, moderate 15-44 pounds.
