Groundskeeper II - Physical Plant (Part-time)

Salary Range

$25.06 an hour

Essential Functions


The Groundskeeper II helps maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-kept campus environment by performing a range of landscaping and grounds maintenance tasks. This mid-level role operates equipment, supports irrigation and repair work, and contributes to daily upkeep that allows students, faculty, staff, and visitors to enjoy an attractive campus setting. The position works collaboratively with Facilities staff to care for campus grounds while responding to seasonal needs and ongoing maintenance priorities.

1. Perform various grounds duties including but not limited to: leaf-raking, planting and mulch replacement; lawn care to include mowing, edging, trimming trees and hedges; as well as seasonal snow and ice removal.
2. Digs ditches for plumbing projects and maintaining and repairing irrigation lines.
3. Picks up litter and maintains outdoor trash receptacles.
4. Assists in various general maintenance projects, such as carpentry welding or plumbing projects, construction, leveling and repair of sidewalks, repairing holes in asphalt, layout and lining of athletic fields.

Required Qualifications


1. High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
2. One (1) year experience in grounds keeping.
3. Possess good organizational skills and able to communicate effectively.
4. Possess a clean and valid Texas driver's license for at least three (3) years.
5. Possesses dexterity, lifting capacity (up to 50lbs), and ability to walk up to 100% of the time in accordance with job demands.
6. Ability to follow safety precautions. Job may entail moderate exposure to chemical, environmental, and various other hazards that require strict adherence to procedures.

Preferred Qualifications


1. Two (2) years of work experience in grounds keeping and general maintenance.
2. Combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
3. Able to read, write, and comprehend English as well as perform basic mathematical computations.

Schedule

Generally, the hours for this position are Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am – 4:00 pm; Friday, 6:00 am – 10:00 am with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.


Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 100% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
