GSA IT Database Architect

Position Summary

The Database Architect designs, implements, and optimizes enterprise level database solutions that support GSA’s internal HR systems. This role leads data modeling, integration design, performance tuning, and technology evaluation to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable HR data environments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and implement enterprise database architectures and long term data strategies for HR systems
  • Create logical and physical database models for complex, multisystem environments.
  • Establish database standards, naming conventions, and best practices.
  • Optimize performance through indexing, partitioning, and query tuning.
  • Design data integration and ETL architectures supporting HR workflows and analytics.
  • Ensure database security, backup, recovery, and compliance with enterprise policies.
  • Evaluate and recommend database platforms, tools, and technologies.
  • Collaborate with application teams on data access patterns and system requirements.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • US Citizen
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related field + 8–10 years of progressive experience in database administration, development, or data engineering.
  • 3–5 years in a dedicated Database Architect or lead DBA role.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and optimizing complex enterprise level database solutions across their full lifecycle.
  • Experience with on premise, cloud, and hybrid database environments supporting diverse applications.
