The Position
The Adler Planetarium is seeking a Guest Service Representative to join our dynamic team located on Chicago's Museum Campus. This position fulfills multiple responsibilities: gate attending at the main box office and theaters; ticket sales at the accessible entrance; group processing; and orientation. This is a union position with the Adler Planetarium Workers United, AFSCME Council 31.


This individual will also be responsible for:


  • Greet guests with a friendly demeanor and verify tickets, discounts, and admission eligibility.
  • Orienting groups on buses during intake and assisting with departure. Organizing and managing lunch space. Greeting and orienting groups to Planet Explorers and enforcing rules
  • Verifying and selling tickets at theaters, ushering guests, organizing seating, and ensuring guest safety.
  • Redeem and sell tickets, ensuring accurate transactions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service on-site and to those contacting the museum.
  • Set up and display signage indoors and outdoors.


The Work Schedule
The typical work schedule for this position varies, with shifts from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on Thursdays to Tuesdays and from 2:15 pm to 10:15 pm on Wednesdays.

The Compensation & Benefits (Part-Time)
Base Pay Range: $17.50/hr - $18.39/hr

The Person
We are looking for someone excited about the opportunity to engage with guests, members, and colleagues. Someone who thrives in a team environment and is always willing to go the extra mile to help their team shine. A person who thinks quickly on their feet and is comfortable interacting with an extremely diverse population. This person will need to be able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment. This person has excellent customer service and communication skills and is a creative thinker.


Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent years of relevant work experience required
  • One year of experience in a guest-facing role with cash handling responsibilities
  • Basic knowledge of service and ticketing systems.
  • Basic knowledge of G Suite and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic knowledge of the Museum Campus and local attractions


Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year of experience working in high-volume tourist attractions with cash handling responsibilities
  • Basic knowledge of the Gateway Galaxy Ticketing System
  • Intermediate knowledge of the Museum Campus and local attractions
