Job Summary
The Head Barista is responsible for leading the café’s barista team to deliver exceptional coffee and outstanding customer service. This role ensures the highest standards of beverage quality, cleanliness, efficiency, and hospitality. The Head Barista oversees daily café operations, supervises and trains barista staff, manages inventory, and maintains consistency in all coffee and espresso beverages.
Responsibilities and Duties1. Beverage Preparation & Quality
- Prepare and serve high-quality specialty coffee and espresso-based beverages.
- Ensure every drink meets established standards for taste, presentation, and consistency.
- Calibrate coffee machines and grinders daily for optimal extraction.
- Stay up to date with coffee trends, brewing techniques, and equipment maintenance.
- Supervise table service and manage guest flow to maximize turnover.
- Conduct table visits in the absence of the Café Manager.
- Coordinate with the kitchen team to maintain food quality and timely service.
- Ensure the café is properly set up and ready for operation before opening hours.
2. Team Leadership & Training
- Supervise, schedule, and support barista staff during shifts.
- Train new baristas on café standards, customer service, and beverage preparation.
- Provide continuous coaching to enhance performance, motivation, and teamwork.
- Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, efficiency, and enthusiasm.
3. Customer Service
- Greet customers warmly and ensure a welcoming, engaging experience.
- Handle customer feedback, complaints, or special requests promptly and professionally.
- Promote new menu items, seasonal offerings, and loyalty programs.
4. Operations & Inventory Management
- Monitor stock levels and order coffee beans, milk, and other supplies as needed.
- Track daily sales, monitor usage, and minimize waste.
- Maintain proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients and materials.
- Assist with cash handling, sales reconciliation, and reporting when required.
5. Equipment & Cleanliness
- Ensure all coffee machines, grinders, and tools are clean and in good working condition.
- Coordinate with maintenance for timely equipment servicing or repairs.
- Oversee general café cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene compliance with safety standards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Senior Barista or Head Barista.
- Strong knowledge of coffee preparation methods, latte art, and café operations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
- Barista training certification is an advantage.
