Job Purpose
Responsible for leading the development and implementation of high-performance training strategies for Fencing athletes. This role involves overseeing the training and performance planning for athletes in Foil discipline, ensuring alignment with SOPC’s strategic goals. The Head Coach will work closely with a broad team of coaches, sports science, and medical staff to optimize training, enhance athlete performance, and ensure athlete safety and well-being. Additionally, the Head Coach will develop competition strategies, coordinate preparation for national and international events, and maintain communication with key stakeholders to drive the success of the Fencing program.
Job Specific Accountabilities
Strategic Leadership in Training & Development
- Lead the creation and execution of high-performance training strategies for Fencing, aligning with SOPC's strategic objectives and global standards.
- Design and oversee personalized training plans for athletes, setting measurable performance goals across Foil discipline
- Ensure consistency and integration of coaching methods, working with the broader team to align techniques and athlete development within the Fencing program.
Athlete Performance Planning & Assessment
- Conduct regular assessments of Fencing athletes, providing customized feedback to enhance key skills such as agility, reaction time, and precision.
- Develop individualized training programs targeting specific areas for improvement, ensuring peak performance in competitions.
- Collaborate with sports science, medical, and support teams to tailor training schedules that optimize recovery, prevent injuries, and promote overall athlete health.
Training Coordination & Execution
- Organize and lead daily training sessions, offering structured guidance to athletes and ensuring their readiness for competitions.
- Work with assistant coaches and support staff to facilitate specialized training in areas such as footwork, tactical positioning, and sparring.
- Continuously improve the Fencing program by integrating insights from performance data and athlete feedback into the training process.
Competition Preparation & Strategy
- Develop comprehensive, results-oriented competition strategies for athletes, focusing on key aspects such as event-specific tactics, pacing, and mental preparation for both national and international competitions.
- Drive and support coaches, assistant coaches and appropriate performance services to provide athletes with competition preparation routines, incorporating event-specific strategies to boost confidence and focus under competition pressure.
- Lead post-competition reviews, analyzing performance outcomes, identifying areas for improvement, and refining training regimens to address gaps and enhance performance for future events.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with SOPC leadership, Fencing Federation, and key stakeholders to ensure that performance goals, resources, and support systems are aligned for maximum effectiveness.
- Provide regular, comprehensive updates to SOPC on the progress of athletes and the status of the Fencing training program, ensuring transparency and alignment on key initiatives and performance milestones.
- Engage with external partners, sponsors, and international organizations to create opportunities for resources, training collaborations, and global exposure, enhancing the Fencing program and its athletes’ competitive edge.
