Job Responsibilities
Serves as Head Librarian providing strategic leadership and management of library services, resources, and operations to support the college’s mission and student success. Ensures equitable access to information, collaborates with faculty to integrate resources into instruction, promotes information literacy, and fosters an inclusive, engaging learning environment while maintaining effective policies and budget oversight. This is an in-person position located at the Cheraw Campus.
Job Functions Of The Head Librarian

Manages library collection and collaborates with faculty and administration to secure additional digital resources appropriate to the college’s mission and academic programs.

Prepares and manages the library collections and operational budget.

Operates an online reference desk for on-demand assistance and facilitates equitable access to library and learning resources and services to all locations.

Develops online research guides, tutorials, and learning objects to support efficient access to library resources and independent student learning. Collaborates with faculty to integrate library resources into course curricula and learning management systems.

Engages in outreach and relationship-building activities to increase awareness and effective use of library services and delivers targeted instruction to support discipline-specific research skills, information literacy, and ethical artificial intelligence use.

Creates and sustains a welcoming, inclusive library environment that encourages study, collaboration, and engagement. Coordinates programming and outreach activities that promote library services and student use of library spaces.

Develops, modifies, recommends, and enforces library policies, procedures, and regulations.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A graduate degree in library science or in a related field such as learning resources or information technology and three (3) years experience. Must have a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of modern academic library administration, procedures, and services. Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations regarding library administration. Knowledge of and experience in online reference work and use of automated library systems. Knowledge of sources of information and reference techniques for the assigned program areas. Ability to communicate effectively, work independently, and exercise initiative. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the designated work of the support staff. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, general public, and partnering agencies.
Additional Comments
Supervises all library activities and operations with academic freedom and independence duly afforded to the position within the college policies and procedures and budgetary limitations. Responsible for supervising and providing library services for day and evening operations both on-campus and at community campus locations. Work schedule may vary with day and/or evening hours required. Overnight and out-of-town travel may be required for conferences, professional development activities, training, delivery, and/or promotion of library services.

Work/Life Balance Work Schedule: The college operating hours (open to the public) are Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Employees are offered one flexible work schedule option. All schedules consist of three full days and one shorter day, which totals 37.5 hours per week.
