The Job Scope:


  • Head of Data Governance will lead and manage Group-wide data governance activities and will have responsibility for Data Governance– functional policies and procedures for organizing, structuring, and managing data in support of data-related regulations and monetization
  • The position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards and practices, both at the department and Business and Functional areas level, to achieve the required level of governance, consistency, quality and controls to meet overall business needs.
  • This role will serve as a point of escalation for governance, data quality and will work closely with Business and Functional area leadership to improve the quality and value of core data assets, respond to Business requirements as well as support the strategic requirements of the department.
  • The role holds responsibility for various data governance processes and tools, including data quality, data lineage, Business data catalogue, reference data management, and data custodianship.
  • The Head of Data Governance acts as delegated custodian of the Group Data Policy, which outlines the activities that are being governed and the roles accountable for each of the activities being governed.
  • Robust governance of Data aims to ensure the availability, usability, and integrity of data is controlled and managed by approved policies and procedures.
  • The Policy outlines procedures for data collection, use, and maintenance in the AUB Data collections, including the centralized Data Warehouse.


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • The Head of Data Governance acts as the secretary of the Group Data and Analytics Committee and is responsible for the agenda, minutes of the prior meeting and adequate circulation of information for the quarterly committee meeting.
  • Establish and govern an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap including strategic priorities for development of information-based capabilities.
  • Roll out an enterprise-wide data governance framework, with a focus on the improvement of data policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, and related data capabilities.
  • Define roles and responsibilities related to data governance and ensure clear accountability for the stewardship and ownership of the company’s principal information assets.
  • Serve as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure that data quality related business requirements and definitions to ensure a proper understanding of the quality of data are clearly defined, communicated and well understood and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning.
  • Develop & maintain inventory of the enterprise information maps, including authoritative systems, owners.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of data quality and data lineage standards. Facilitating the organization of the data catalogue and related roles and responsibilities to define and capture Business data definitions in the data catalogue including reference data management.
  • Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements.
  • Lead Senior Management, comprising resources from the Business and Functional areas and IT business and operations functions, to achieve their objectives; resolve issues escalated from Business and Functional areas data governance representatives.
  • Identify new business opportunities pertaining to the use of information assets to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace / represent data as a strategic business asset at the Senior Management table.


Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a major services organization, with explicit large-scale data (governance) and project management experience.
  • Knowledge of industry leading data quality, data lineage, data catalog and reference data practices.
  • Knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to management of enterprise information assets and approaches related to data protection.
  • Knowledge of data related government regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues.
  • Demonstrated consulting skills, with change management concepts and strategies, including communication, culture change and performance measurement system design.
  • Knowledge of risk data architecture and technology solutions.
  • Internally and externally recognized subject matter expert that influences the way things are done.
  • Bachelors or master’s in computer science, MIS, or Information Management.
