Head of Design – Interior Fit‑Out

Role Overview

The Head of Design leads the creative, technical, and strategic direction of all design activities within the interior fit‑out business. This role ensures that every project — from concept to handover — meets the highest standards of design excellence, functionality, build ability, and client satisfaction. The ideal candidate blends strong creative vision with deep technical knowledge of materials, joinery, MEP coordination, and fit‑out execution.

Key Responsibilities

Design Leadership & Strategy

• Develop and drive the company’s overall design vision and design standards.
• Lead concept development, space planning, and design strategy for all projects.
• Ensure designs are aligned with client requirements, project budgets, and buildability constraints.
• Oversee the creation and evolution of design guidelines, material libraries, and design processes.

Project Design Management

• Review and approve all design deliverables including concepts, mood boards, 3D visuals, detailed drawings, and shop drawings.
• Ensure seamless coordination between design, estimation, project management, and site teams.
• Conduct design audits to ensure compliance with local codes, regulations, and best practices.
• Provide design solutions to resolve site challenges and technical issues.

Client Engagement & Business Support

• Lead client presentations, design pitches, and workshops to secure new projects.
• Translate client briefs into compelling design concepts and actionable plans.
• Collaborate with business development and sales teams to support tender submissions and proposals.

Team Leadership & Development

• Manage, mentor, and grow a multidisciplinary design team (architects, interior designers, 3D visualizers, draftsmen).
• Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Allocate resources effectively across multiple concurrent projects.

Technical & Fit‑Out Expertise

• Ensure all designs are practical, cost‑effective, and executable within fit‑out constraints.
• Oversee coordination of architectural details with joinery, MEP, and specialist subcontractors.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of materials, finishes, sustainability standards, and industry innovations.

Quality & Delivery

• Establish and enforce quality standards for design output and documentation.
• Ensure timely delivery of all design stages in line with project schedules.
• Conduct regular design reviews and value‑engineering exercises.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in interior design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a fit‑out or design‑build company.
• Strong portfolio showcasing commercial, hospitality, retail, or high‑end residential fit‑out projects.
• Deep understanding of joinery, materials, MEP coordination, and construction methodologies.
• Proficiency in design and technical software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, 3ds Max, Adobe Suite).
• Excellent communication, presentation, and client‑facing skills.
