Overview

Our client, a fast-growing international eCommerce agency, is looking for a highly skilled Head of Development (Shopify) to lead their development team and take full ownership of technical delivery.

This is a high-performance role requiring someone who writes clean, fast, and structured code, understands performance optimization, and can build world-class, conversion-focused Shopify experiences. The right candidate should be proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of both leading a team and delivering hands-on development work daily.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Shopify development function end-to-end.
• Write high-quality code daily (Liquid, JSON templates, CSS, JavaScript).
• Set and maintain technical standards, code structure, naming conventions, and best practices.
• Review code from the development team (2–4 developers) and ensure consistent quality.
• Perform QA on all builds before delivery, ensuring stability, speed, and polish.
• Collaborate closely with senior leadership on daily technical planning.
• Ensure all tasks are delivered on time without requiring oversight.
• Convert complex requirements into clean, simple technical solutions.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience working with Shopify development.
• Expert-level proficiency in Liquid, metafields, theme architecture, and Shopify app integrations.
• Strong understanding of frontend performance and clean code structure.
• Ability to execute fast without compromising quality.
• Proactive, self-driven, and highly accountable.
• Strong QA mindset with the ability to identify issues early.
• Fluent in English for daily communication.

Bonus Skills

• Experience leading or mentoring other developers.
• Knowledge of CRO principles and A/B testing.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with designers for smooth handoff.
• Experience with speed optimization and Shopify performance metrics.
