Head of Engineering

We are hiring a Head of Engineering to serve as a hands-on architect responsible for building core systems from the ground up. This is a zero-to-one role focused on designing scalable data and AI infrastructure in a fast-moving environment. Part of the role will entail overseeing offshore resources and building out an in-house team. However, the right candidate will be excited about rolling up their sleeves and building! You will play a key role in reducing reliance on contractors, establishing engineering best practices, and helping build a small internal team over time.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build production-grade systems from zero to one
• Design scalable data pipelines and data models across multiple sources
• Lead implementation of modern data platform infrastructure (e.g., Databricks or similar)
• Build internal tools that leverage large-scale data and AI/LLM workflows
• Provide technical leadership across contractor teams and bring core capabilities in-house
• Establish engineering standards and best practices
• Mentor team and help build out engineering

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• 3+ years of mentorship/management experience
• Proven zero-to-one system development
• Strong backend and distributed systems architecture experience
• Experience building large-scale data pipelines
• Proficiency in Python or similar backend language
• Experience working with modern data platforms and cloud infrastructure
• Experience with Databricks or similar data platforms
• Experience building AI or LLM-enabled systems
• Background in search, recommendation, or data-intensive platforms
• Experience working in contractor-heavy or fast-scaling environments

Total compensation up to 400k. This is a hyrid role 4 days in office.
