Head of MEP-Design

Job Title: Design MEP Head

Position Overview:

The Design MEP Head will lead, manage, and oversee the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design department for all ongoing and upcoming construction projects. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and cost-effective MEP designs while coordinating closely with architects, structural teams, vendors, and project managers. The candidate must have strong leadership skills, in-depth technical expertise, and the ability to optimize processes within the MEP design lifecycle.

Ø Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership & Management:

·        Lead and supervise the MEP Design team (mechanical, electrical, plumbing engineers & draftsmen).

·        Allocate resources, plan workloads, and monitor performance.

·        Conduct training, mentoring, and skill development of team members.

2. Project Planning & Coordination:

·        Review client requirements, project scopes, and design briefs.

·        Coordinate with architectural, structural, and interior design departments to ensure full integration of MEP systems.

·        Provide technical guidance and direction throughout design phases.

3. Design Development:

·        Oversee the creation of MEP design concepts, schematic designs, and detailed construction drawings.

·        Review and approve MEP calculations, load assessments, equipment sizing, and engineering reports.

·        Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and local authority regulations (ASHRAE, NFPA, IPC, NEC, etc.).

4. Quality Control & Compliance:

·        Implement and enforce internal MEP design standards, QA/QC procedures, and best engineering practices.

·        Conduct design reviews, clash detection, and risk assessments.

·        Ensure accuracy, efficiency, and constructability of all MEP design deliverables.

5. Client & Stakeholder Communication:

·        Attend client meetings, project reviews, and coordination sessions.

·        Present design solutions, address concerns, and ensure customer satisfaction.

·        Collaborate with consultants, suppliers, and contractors when needed.

6. Cost & Value Engineering:

·        Prepare and validate MEP design estimates, BOQs, and technical specifications.

·        Recommend cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or functionality.

·        Support the tendering and procurement process by evaluating technical submissions.

7. Technology & Innovation:

·        Promote the use of advanced design technologies such as BIM/Revit , energy modeling, and sustainable design practices.

·        Keep the team updated with new engineering trends and developments.

Ø  Qualifications & Requirements:

·        Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.

·        Minimum 10–15 years of experience in MEP design, with at least 5 years in a leadership/managerial role.

·        Expertise in Mechanical (HVAC), Electrical, Low-Voltage, Fire Protection, and Plumbing systems.

·        Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, design software, and engineering tools .

·        Strong knowledge of international MEP codes and regulations .

·         Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills .
