Position Overview:

The Head of Nursing for Education and Research is a senior leadership role responsible for directing and overseeing all Nursing and Midwifery education, training, practice development and research initiatives within a healthcare organization at the strategic level. The post holder will support innovation in practice, building on the expertise, creativity and passion of staff while working with defined frameworks to support future innovation.

The Head of Education and Research (HOER) is the operational lead for nursing and midwifery education and engages in strategic planning and review of education programmes in partnership with professional leads and strategically influences and shapes contemporary education and training framework and contextualises the framework to build capacity and capability aligning with Hospital goals.

The HOER is accountable for coordination of services and standards, and application of corporate and clinical governance for nursing and midwifery education, credentialing, and research across KCH Dubai health service sites, with multidisciplinary interface and partnership.

As a member of the King’s College Hospital London (KCH) senior leadership team, the HOER supports executive level decision-making through delivery of strategic advice and guidance for education training and research to optimize service delivery and policy development.


Key Accountabilities:

Professional Leadership:

As a member of the King’s College Hospital London (KCH) senior leadership team, the HOER demonstrates experience in professional leadership through:

  1. Liaison with clinical networks and other internal and external stakeholders in relation to nursing and midwifery standards and practice to achieve targets and/or healthcare outcomes.
  2. Building capability of the nursing and midwifery workforce to confidently embrace technologies that promote greater access and reach health services through use of telehealth and other virtual IT supported modalities.
  3. Monitoring compliance with legal requirements governing healthcare and professional standards for nursing and midwifery across KCH.
  4. Demonstration of extensive and effective change management expertise to facilitate successful implementation of KCH educational and innovation initiatives, programmes and plans.


Workforce:

  1. Contributes portfolio expertise to functional planning for capital works and asset equipment management related to education and training activities such as simulation, mandatory training, upskilling or online learning.
  2. Leads capability and capacity building of the nursing and midwifery workforce through implementation of the Education Strategy, Nurse Practitioner Strategy and Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Workforce Plan for KCH
  3. Lead, manage, motivate and develop staff to effectively engage staff and maintain the highest level of staff morale and to create a climate within the services that is evidenced by high standards of care and openness.


Research and Evidence-Based Practice:

  1. Lead and support nursing research initiatives, including nurse-led projects and collaborations with other departments.
  2. Develop, implement, and maintain evidence-based nursing practice standards.
  3. Oversee funded research projects and assist with grant applications to secure funding for specialized education and research.


Quality, Safety abd Risk Management:

  1. Co-operative partnership with the multi-disciplinary executive members and other leadership members in aspects of clinical and corporate governance.
  2. Maintain accreditation and regulatory compliance and ensure that working arrangements are in place that enable international evidence based clinical practice.
  3. Work with the Governance Team to identify risks and themes from incident reporting in order to develop robust action plans to reduce risk and provide high standards of care.
  4. Actively promote a ‘just culture’ of safety amongst the team, initiating quality improvement projects and fostering the development of shared governance.


Budget and Financial Management:

  1. Maintaining budget integrity and fiscal management according to financial and human resource delegations for nursing and midwifery education and training across KCH.
  2. To be responsible and accountable for the Education budgets ensuring the optimum use of resources and establishing and maintaining effective management process to ensure financial control.


Education & Qualification, Experience, Training & Knowledge:

Bachelor Degree in a Nursing discipline or equivalent qualification - Essential

Diploma of Education or Clinical Facilitation or higher - Essential

DHA Registered Nurse - Essential

AHA BLS Certified - Essential

Leadership and Management Course/Experience - Essential

Knowledge and Experience

Has worked within an appropriate service environment within the last 4 years - Essential

Has at least 5 years clinical experience post registration - Essential

Has had at least 4 years nurse educator experience - Essential

Demonstrable interest in and commitment to the professional development of others. - Essential

Previous experience of leading change in a clinical environment - Essential

An understanding of HR processes and issues pertaining to staff management - Essential

An understanding of issues in relation to finance management - Essential

Awareness and understanding of current health issues and in particular to demonstrate a good understanding of the organisational initiatives - Essential
