Head of Performing Arts (Drama Specialist) - Yasmina British Academy (AY 26/27)

Aldar Education are currently seeking an outstanding Head of Performing Arts (Drama Specialist) for Yasmina British Academy in Abu Dhabi to join in Academic Year 2026/2027.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the highly successful Aldar family. The role will lead across Performing Arts and teach Drama up to A Level. You will also have oversight of Music, working closely with the Head of Music.

Candidates must have a secure knowledge of teaching the English National Curriculum. Potential candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of implementing effective strategies to raise standards and plug gaps in learning to ensure outstanding progress for all. They will be able to demonstrate leadership skills/experiences at a variety of levels and to be effective in working collaboratively in a team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Education or BSc degree with PGCE or equivalent is essential.
  • At least 3 years teaching experience, including 3 consecutive years of performance exceeding standards and expectations as evidenced by performance appraisal.
  • Wide experience and impact in a Middle Leadership role.
  • Experience of leading school initiatives that have led to improvement in standards and achievement.
  • Experience working with parents and external agencies.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in the same role.

Key Tasks

To deliver engaging lessons that inspire students to succeed in order to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Working alongside fellow teachers to plan engaging lessons that meet the requirements of the curriculum
  • Liaising with colleagues professionally and working flexibly

  • Working cooperatively with curriculum support staff (where applicable) to support student development
  • Acting as a form tutor and supporting the pastoral needs of students.

A. Teaching and Learning

  • Clear understanding of the British curriculum
  • Organising classroom provision, learning resources and creating displays to encourage a positive and engaging learning environment
  • Planning, preparing and presenting sessions that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within the classes taught in line with the Learning and Teaching Policy
  • Motivating pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative teaching
  • Observing and assessing children in line with the Assessment Policy
  • Being reflective of the classroom provision, sessions taught, progress made, and adjusting environment, planning and curriculum to reflect this

B. Assessment and Data

  • Taking responsibility for the progress of classes taught
  • Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of students’ development using the schools designated assessment system
  • Using data provided by assessments to influence further planning, provision and intervention
  • Be accountable to the Head of Department for the performance data of classes taught and to develop strategies to improve
  • Providing feedback to parents and carers on a students’ progress at Parent Teacher Conferences and other meetings.

C. Behaviour Management and Duties

  • Follow Behaviour Policy
  • Manage classes effectively, using approaches which are appropriate to students’ needs to inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
  • Maintain excellent relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary within the school’s Behaviour Policy
  • Be a positive role model and demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour, which are expected of pupils
  • Have high expectations of behaviour, promoting self-control and independence of all learners
  • Carry out duties as directed and within the school’s policy.

D. Wider Professional Responsibilities

  • To work as part of a department team, supporting planning, assessment, resources and special events linked to that team
  • Support the organising and taking part in school events, outings and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening
  • Communicate effectively with parents/carers with regards to students’ achievements and well-being using school systems/processes such as CPOMS as appropriate
  • Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school
  • Run a weekly ECA each term.
