Head Stocker

Duties and Responsibilities Stocking & Merchandising
  • Stocks shelves, displays, coolers, and freezers with current, fresh product.
  • Rotates inventory using FIFO and removes/discards outdated or spoiled items.
  • Builds promotional and seasonal displays; maintains merchandise presentation standards.
  • Ensures shelves are clean, faced, properly filled, and visually appealing.
  • Maintains fully stocked and organized backroom, including pallets, overstock, and staging areas.
  • Checks for proper signing, pricing, and code dates throughout the department.
Receiving & Inventory Control
  • Breaks down loads, verifies invoices, inspects product quality, and reports shortages or damages.
  • Stocks and rotates product immediately following company temperature and storage guidelines.
  • Performs or assists with physical inventories as scheduled.
  • Helps control shrink by monitoring damage, spoilage, handling, and storage conditions.
  • Ensures all products meet company standards for freshness, labeling, and safety.
Leadership (Head Stocker Function)
  • Assigns daily tasks to stockers on shift (if applicable).
  • Monitors employee productivity and ensures work is completed efficiently.
  • Trains new and existing employees on stocking procedures, safety, and company policy.
  • Supports Grocery Manager/Night Crew Manager with planning nightly/early‑morning operations.
Customer Service
  • Assists customers with product location, suggestions, and basic product information.
  • Responds to customer concerns professionally and directs issues to management as needed.
  • Sets an example of friendly, helpful, and efficient customer service.
Safety, Cleanliness & Compliance
  • Maintains clean work areas, including aisles, coolers, freezers, and the backroom.
  • Follows all workplace safety rules and ensures team compliance.
  • Adheres to retail labeling laws, code‑dating requirements, and temperature regulations.
  • Implements emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions when needed.
  • Uses equipment properly, including pallet jacks, hand trucks, box cutters, Sterilox machine (where applicable).
Administrative Tasks
  • Completes required logs, temperature records, and basic departmental paperwork as needed.
  • Communicates inventory issues, out‑of‑stocks, overstock, and damage concerns to management.
Skills & Physical Requirements
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50–80 lbs frequently.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and repetitive arm movement.
  • Ability to stand/walk for long periods and work at a fast, efficient pace.
  • Manual dexterity and eye–hand coordination.
  • Understanding of product variety, perishability, sanitation, and labeling standards.
  • Basic math skills (weights, measures, counts).
Work Environment
  • Temperature‑controlled store environment.
  • Frequent exposure to refrigerated cases (~35°F) and occasional freezer environments (-20°F).
  • May require working overnight, early morning, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exposure to equipment hazards (pallet jacks, cutters, machinery).
Additional Requirements
  • Good attendance and punctuality.
  • Must comply with company dress and grooming standards.
  • Performs all duties with honesty, accuracy, and integrity.
  • May be assigned additional duties as required by management.

Pay Transparency:



Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay*, PTO/Vacation pay*, paid holidays*, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis.


  • For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.
