Health Information QA Technician

Medical Records, Release of Information
Full-Time Days

Summary:
Performs quality assurance audits based on Summa Health’s medical staff rules and regulations, Joint Commission guidelines, and HIM policies. Checks the quality of all prepped and scanned documents prepared/performed by Health Information Specialists. Audits the assignment of physician deficiencies. Reviews and troubleshoots accounts in various Epic work queues.

Formal Education Required:
a. High school diploma or equivalent.
b. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Associate degree in Health Information Technology preferred.

Experience & Training Required:
a. Two (2) years of Health Information Management experience in an Acute Care setting or Medical Office (not required if applicant has RHIT or Associate degree in Health Information Technology).
b. And/or two (2) years’ experience as a Summa Health Information Specialist and meets or exceeds departmental and individual goals.
c. Computer experience – specifically Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point.
d. Medical Terminology.

Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
a. Ability to pass Medical Terminology exam as administered by Human Resources.
b. Ability to pass a Typing exam administered by Human Resources with a minimum of 30 wpm.
c. Ability to pass Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook exam as administered by Human Resources.
d. Must maintain confidentiality including but not limited to patient records and employee audit results.
e. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively communicate verbally and in writing with employees, physicians, and other Health Information Management customers.
f. Ability to exhibit a courteous behavior when working with internal and external customers and work as a team member.
g. Ability to discern numbers and names accurately.
h. Ability to monitor concentration and focus on task at hand.
i. Ability to multi-task, prioritizes work, determine/meet deadlines under stress, and stay organized.
j. Must be detail oriented.
k. Ability to work independently, be self-directed in executing responsibilities within a team structure and take the initiative to contribute beyond the scope of formal duties (i.e. suggesting innovative ideas, providing feedback on the team’s direction, and good organizational skills).
l. Requires a high degree of logic and accuracy in assembling and displaying data.
m. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.

Level of Physical Demands:
a. Frequent sitting and keyboard operation, occasional standing, occasional lifting from floor to standing position and waist to shoulder position of 10-19 pounds.
b. Ability to view computer monitor for long periods of time.

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members when determining offers. Please keep in mind that the range that is listed is the full base salary range. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical.
