Health Services Laborer I or II

Job Summary:

This employee performs entry-level preventative maintenance and corrective repair of buildings, industrial systems, equipment, and grounds. Works under close supervision assists in monitoring building systems operations and performance. Utilizes several entry-level trade skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating and cooling, sheet finish, and repairing mud and tape holes in the wall.

Job Duties:

Complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and Cherokee Nation directives related to building operations and work safety. Observe and receive training, instruction, and guidance on various building operations processed. Adheres to existing working practices, methods, procedures, and undertakes relevant training and development activities. Ensure that all Cherokee Nation facilities and grounds are well maintained. Ensure all equipment in service to provide are for the patients, guests, and visitors are working and functioning properly. Ensure that all Cherokee Nation facilities and grounds are a safe and secure environment. Assist all other trades in the maintenance department as needed. Assist with cleaning and repairing heating and air conditioning units. Assist with performing a variety of routine preventative maintenance items, replacing filters, belts, light bulbs, oiling motors, etc. as required. Assist with repairing pumps, air compressors, exhaust fans, water softeners, etc. Assist in the repair of boilers, electrical controls, telephone equipment under direct supervision. Repair, maintain, and clean department equipment. Assembles move and install furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Performs a variety of basic carpentry duties-including wall construction, doors installation, installing/repairing/adding locksets, etc. Maintain all Cherokee Nation-owned vehicles and the equipment that is used to maintain the grounds of the facility. Knowledge of the impact-resistant materials and the ability to install products. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT

One-year certificate from college or technical school; or 1-1/2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

At least two (2) years of experience in a related field.

COMPUTER SKILLS

An individual should know order processing systems, spreadsheet software, and word processing software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Certification in welding, locksmith, carpentry, OR Plumbing, HVAC, or Electrical apprentice card. Other applicable certifications may be accepted.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, and peripheral.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may (regularly, frequently, occasionally) be exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), work near moving mechanical parts, work in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
