Health Unit Coordinator

Episcopal Homes of Minnesota has proudly served seniors for 130 years in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood. Our vibrant campus offers Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing, and Hospice services. Residents enjoy access to amenities including a fitness center, pool, pub, theater, and gourmet dining.
We are currently hiring a Health Unit Coordinator to join our Skilled Nursing team. This role is responsible for coordinating health records, supporting admissions, managing clerical functions, and ensuring seamless communication between residents, families, clinical staff, and outside providers.
Wage: $22.00-$25.00/hr.
Schedule: Full-Time Days 8:30am-5:00pm

What You'll Do

  • Transcribe physician orders, including admissions, readmissions, and new orders
  • Maintain accurate and complete resident medical records and physician orders
  • Answer nursing station phones and assist with admission-related inquiries
  • Coordinate resident appointments, transportation, lab scheduling, and ancillary services
  • Prepare resident rooms by arranging equipment and supplies needed for admission
  • Complete admission audits, chart assembly, diagnosis coding, and required documentation
  • Review incoming referrals for clinical and financial appropriateness
  • Verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations as needed
  • Enter referrals and admission information into the electronic medical record system
  • Coordinate admission logistics, including room assignments and equipment needs
  • Welcome new residents, assist with paperwork, and verify identification and insurance information
  • Conduct admission interviews and ensure all required documentation is completed and uploaded
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, admissions personnel, providers, and families to support quality resident care

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and multitasking skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive health information
  • Proficiency with computer systems and electronic medical records

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of pre-admission processes, county screenings, and insurance plans
  • Experience obtaining prior authorizations and managing admissions processes
  • One to three years of experience working with seniors in a healthcare setting
  • Experience with PointClickCare (PCC) or other electronic medical record systems
  • Strong documentation, spelling, and time management skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and handling documents
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and twist as needed
