General Summary of Position


Job Summary:

MedStar Health is looking for a Health Wellness Coach to join our team!

Health Wellness Supports the transformation of clinical care to patients in primary care and medical specialties. Provides a critical service for patients planning to make healthy lifestyle changes and plays a key role in the success of Virtual Shared Medical Visits (VSMV) and the overall success of the MedStar Healthy Living Program. Spends about 50% serving as the Program Coordinator and 50% as Health Wellness Coach supporting VSMVs and individual wellness coaching for program participants. Serves as essential support for expanding and implementing VSMVs within MMG and provides critical support to MMG providers focused on educating and empowering patients to make healthy lifestyle changes during virtual group visits. Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the program including, creation and maintenance of WSMV schedule, program outreach and awareness activities, patient referral management, patient outreach and group visit scheduling, and program analytics. Supplements and supports VSMVs participation with high-impact individualized coaching plans. Develops ongoing relationships with patients to improve their health and wellbeing and uses coaching methods to build patients' capacities for sustainable lifestyle change, including increased engagement, self-awareness, motivation, mindfulness, knowledge and skills, confidence, and resilience.

Primary Duties:

  • Training & Program Coordination – Leads protocolized training for new coaches and providers, coordinates daily operations of the MedStar Healthy Living program, and ensures practices are prepared for success.
  • Patient & Provider Engagement – Facilitates VSMV groups, builds strong provider relationships, supports patient scheduling and reminders, and conducts outreach to increase participation.
  • Education & Support – Assists in developing patient education materials on chronic conditions and virtual visit tools; provides ongoing patient education, individualized care planning, and support tailored to age, culture, and needs.
  • Scheduling & Communication – Establishes and maintains VSMV schedules, staff assignments, and consistent communication with patients, providers, and care teams through virtual and in-person channels.
  • Performance & Outcomes – Tracks billing, monitors metrics for both program and individual patient progress, recommends process improvements, and assists with budget preparation in partnership with leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health care administration or related field (Required)
  • 3-4 years as a health coach (Required)
  • 1-2 years providing telehealth or virtual care services (Preferred)

License/Certifications:

  • Wellness Coach Certification National Board Certification in Health and Wellness Coaching (NB-HWC) required or have met eligibility requirements to sit for exam with certification. Within 1 year (Required)

This position has a hiring range of $60,632 - $107,494
