Phelps Dunbar LLP is an AmLaw 200 full-service law firm. The Litigation paralegal shall perform various substantive legal duties under the supervision and direction of the attorneys in the Healthcare practice group.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation of answers to interrogatories and responses to requests for production of documents including the production of electronically stored information.

Review E-discovery for production

Review production documents for extraction of key documents

Coordinate depositions of parties requested by attorneys.

Summarize and organize depositions, records, medical records and testimony utilizing litigation support technology tools.

Assist with all aspects of case litigation, trial preparation including identifying and marking exhibits for motions, position papers, mediation depositions and trial.

Verify case citations in briefs for current validity and accuracy through Westlaw.

Interact with various government and court officials as well as with clients.

Maintain attorney calendars with case deadlines.

Assist in trial with exhibits, demonstrative aids and witnesses.

Maintain timesheets and meet firm deadlines in accordance with Firm policies.

Knowledge of document review platforms (e.g. Relativity, Reveal, Casepoint, and Everlaw).

Communicate and coordinate with experts for key data, reports and supporting documents.

Perform other duties as required.
Claims Oversight & Reporting

Serve as a key liaison between clients, insurers, brokers, defense counsel, and internal legal teams, ensuring claims are managed efficiently, consistently, and in accordance with client guidelines and service standards.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date claims records/loss runs, including reserves, exposures, and key documentation

Prepare and distribute periodic claims status reports, summaries, and dashboards

Monitor claim developments and escalate high-exposure, complex, or time-sensitive matters as appropriate

Support claims leadership and attorneys with management information, metrics, and trend analysis
Stakeholder & Client Support

Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal legal teams, clients, insurers, and external partners

Participate in client meetings and calls to provide claims updates and operational support

Respond to claims-related inquiries in a professional, timely, and solutions-oriented manner

Support onboarding of new clients, matters, or claims portfolios
Education and Experience Required
-
A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required. A four-year college degree and a certificate in paralegal studies is preferred. Significant prior experience may be substituted for a combination of the educational requirements.

A minimum of five years litigation experience and the ability to manage complex litigation using current technology is required.

Prior experience with medical malpractice cases would be a plus.
Qualifications and Skills Required

Must have a high level of computer literacy including proficiency in MS Office Suite and a working knowledge of a document management system.

Experience using electronic resources and litigation support software is strongly preferred.

Excellent time management, organizational skills, attention to detail, and proofreading skills are also required.
