Job Overview: Exciting Onsite Summer Internship Opportunity!

Heatherwood—Long Island’s premier Developer/Owner/Operator of multifamily and mixed-use communities—is offering an engaging, hands-on Summer Internship Program for college students and recent graduates. This program is fully onsite, 5 days per week, and provides the opportunity to travel to multiple properties and project locations across Long Island, Queens, and Brooklyn.

Our 9-week paid internship (June 1st–July 31st) is designed to introduce talented candidates to real projects, mentorship, and meaningful on-the-job experience within the real estate industry. It allows us to invest in the next generation of talent while identifying future leaders who may one day contribute to Heatherwood’s continued success.

What You’ll Do:

As a Heatherwood intern, you’ll gain immersive exposure to the multifamily real estate lifecycle by rotating through core areas of our business. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to real initiatives, and see firsthand how different teams collaborate to support thriving communities.

Throughout the internship, you will:

  • Development & Construction: Spend time at an active construction site and observe how a project progresses from plans to completion.
  • Leasing & Property Management: Visit multiple properties to understand leasing operations, customer service, and day-to-day community management.
  • Finance & Accounting: Review financial data, analyze trends, and learn how our accounting and finance teams support our portfolio.
  • Asset Management: Explore how we strategically manage and optimize a diverse, long-standing real estate portfolio.
  • Legal: Gain exposure to real estate legal processes by assisting with document review, understanding lease and contract structures, observing compliance procedures, and learning how regulatory requirements impact property operations.

This program offers invaluable opportunities to learn, network, and challenge yourself—all within a supportive, hands-on environment.

Requirements:
  • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework toward a bachelor’s degree (majors in Real Estate, Hospitality, Construction, Finance, Legal Studies, or related fields are a plus)
  • Strong academic performance (preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher)
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive, eager-to-learn mindset with the ability to take initiative
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between multiple sites; this is an onsite role that requires travel within Long Island, Queens, and Brooklyn

Why Heatherwood?

  • Gain meaningful, hands-on experience in several functional areas of real estate
  • Build industry knowledge and skills that support long-term career growth
  • Network with seasoned professionals, mentors, and potential future colleagues
  • Join a company known for recognizing and promoting internal talent
  • Contribute to a team that values innovation, collaboration, integrity, and development
