Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Heating Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience with a range of heating systems, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
This role will involve working across domestic and commercial heating projects, including air source heat pumps, oil heating systems, and gas heating systems. Duties
- The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Installing, maintaining, servicing, and repairing heating systems in residential and commercial properties
- Working on a variety of systems, including air source heat pumps, oil boilers, gas boilers, and associated heating controls
- Conducting routine inspections to ensure heating systems operate safely, efficiently, and in line with current regulations
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out effective repairs using hand tools, power tools, and specialist equipment
- Supporting heating system upgrades, replacements, and modifications
- Carrying out plumbing tasks connected to heating systems, including pipework installation, leak repairs, and system flushing
- Assembling components and systems in accordance with technical specifications and manufacturer instructions
- Welding and fabricating components where required for system modifications or repairs
- Using basic carpentry skills for mounting equipment or creating support structures where necessary
- Safely lifting and moving equipment and materials in line with health and safety procedures
- Operating company or commercial vehicles to transport tools, materials, and equipment to sites
- Maintaining accurate records of work completed, parts used, and any recommendations for further works
- Adhering to all safety protocols, including the correct use of personal protective equipment
Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience as a Heating Engineer or in a similar heating, plumbing, or mechanical trade role
- Practical experience working with air source heat pumps, oil-fired heating systems, and gas heating systems
- Knowledge of domestic and commercial heating installations, servicing, diagnostics, and repairs
- Competency in plumbing, pipework, system assembly, and general mechanical tasks
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and specialist heating or mechanical equipment
- An understanding of mechanical systems, heating principles, thermodynamics, and basic calculations relevant to system design and fault finding
- Experience in welding, fabrication, or carpentry would be advantageous
- Ability to work safely and efficiently, including carrying out heavy lifting where required
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- A proactive approach to work and a commitment to quality workmanship
- A valid driving licence is essential
Desirable Qualifications
Desirable qualifications or accreditations may include:
- Gas Safe registration or relevant gas qualifications
- OFTEC qualification or experience with oil-fired heating systems
- Air source heat pump installation or maintenance qualification
- Relevant plumbing, heating, mechanical, or renewable technology qualifications
