Heavy Equipment Operator

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Has a highly developed ability to operate heavy equipment without close supervision plus can perform all levels of skilled construction work including manual labor. (Level A)

TYPICAL DUTIES:

1. Has advanced ability to operate two or more of the following equipment:
Bull dozer Excavator Grader Vibra-Plate

Scrapper Off road truck Any rollers

Hi Lift Rubber-tired backhoe Grade Tractor

Skid steer loader Rubber-tired loader Paver

Or

Any rollers Distributor Vibra-Plate Paver

2. Has the ability to perform all kinds of skilled manual labor as found in the job descriptions for Laborer I, II and III which include:

 Carpentry

 Shoveling, screeding and finishing concrete

 Laying pipe and moving pipe

 Laying and finishing asphalt

 Lead man or top man

3. Performs a variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools, such as demolishing buildings, sawing lumber, dismantling forms, removing projections from concrete, mounting pipe hangers, and cutting and attaching insulating material.

4. May involve physical labor that includes using various hand tools.
5. Work is usually performed with other workers and teamwork is critical to success.
6. May function as the lead man on the project when the foreman is absent.
7. Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:

Skills: Standing for long periods of time, bending, stooping and crawling, climbing and lifting items weighing up to 100+ pounds, extensive range of motion a must, average hearing and sight.

Must be able to work overtime especially during peak season.
