Penhall Company is recruiting a Heavy Equipment Operator to join it's team. This position is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment such as excavators, skid steers, and loaders to support construction, demolition, and concrete removal projects. This role involves equipment maintenance, material handling, and working closely with field crews to ensure job site efficiency and safety. You'll also perform maintenance tasks such as greasing, cleaning and inspecting equipment. Must be willing and able to work extended shifts, including nights and weekends, when required.

This position is deemed as a Safety Sensitive position and will require negative result for preemployment Drug and Alcohol testing in order to complete offer of employment for anyone who will be operating heavy equipment or company vehicles.

This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Operating Engineers Local 3 union. Will be required to join the union and maintain membership in good standing. Current Local 169 members welcome to apply. Pay rate is union scale.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy construction equipment including excavators, front-end loaders, skid steers, and related machinery.
  • Load dump trucks with broken concrete using appropriate equipment.
  • Break concrete using an excavator with hydraulic breaker attachments.
  • Operate machinery in support of building, bridge, and highway construction or demolition.
  • Inspect, fuel, and maintain equipment at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Communicate clearly with dispatch and job site supervisors regarding tasks and updates.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment as needed.
  • Accurate completion of work orders and time cards.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork (may include, but is not limited to, daily logs, inspection logs, equipment inspection, hours of service, etc.)
  • Deal with co-workers, customers and the public in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Assist team members and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Commercial driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Current DOT medical certificate.
  • Minimum 3 years of verifiable experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Active, unrestricted CDL license required with a clean driving record.
  • Valid Commercial driver’s license with a clean driving record and ALL endorsements

  • Strong knowledge of heavy equipment operation, capabilities, and safety practices.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Proficient with computers and mobile devices (iPhone and iPad), knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, internet browsers and Windows
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities and sometimes conflicting deadlines
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Dependable, safety-minded, and team-oriented.

Physical and Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.
  • Must be able to work extended shifts, including nights and weekends, when required.
  • Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrain types.
  • Must comply with all Penhall Company safety regulations.
