POSITION OVERVIEW:
TAS Energy Inc. is seeking an experienced Heavy Haul Manager to oversee all heavy haul logistics operations, personnel, and planning. This leader will manage all oversize/overweight transportation activities to and from TAS facilities and project sites, ensuring full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and TXDOT requirements.
The ideal candidate brings proven leadership in heavy haul operations, advanced knowledge of specialized trailers and load securement, and a strong “Safety First” mindset. This role is essential to delivering complex equipment safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead, supervise, and mentor the Heavy Haul team, including drivers, escorts, and logistics support staff.
  • Oversee daily planning, routing, and execution of oversized/overweight transportation.
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, and TXDOT regulations including HOS, permitting, load securement, and vehicle inspections.
  • Review and approve route surveys, OS/OW permits, escort requirements, and restricted travel windows.
  • Manage safe loading, securement, and movement of modular and specialized equipment.
  • Oversee fleet readiness including preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs, and driver inspection reports.
  • Conduct driver road tests, skills assessments, and regular performance evaluations.
  • Partner with EHS leadership to implement and improve heavy haul safety programs and SOPs.
  • Establish and track KPIs for safety, compliance, utilization, and on-time delivery.
  • Coordinate closely with Manufacturing, Project Management, and Logistics teams to align schedules.
  • Manage third-party vendors such as escort services and specialized equipment providers.
  • Maintain logs, documentation, and regulatory compliance records for vehicles and drivers.
  • Participate in safety meetings, incident reviews, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform additional duties assigned to support TAS logistics operations and company objectives.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of heavy haul operations including lowboys, multi-axle trailers, jeeps, and boosters.
  • Advanced understanding of oversize/overweight permitting, load security, and routing.
  • Expertise in DOT, FMCSA, and TXDOT regulations including HOS, ELD, and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to assess load securement, trailer configuration, and weight distribution.
  • Proficiency in GPS-based route planning, fleet management systems (e.g., Samsara), and TMS platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with the capability to make real-time operational adjustments.
  • Mechanical aptitude for identifying equipment issues and coordinating repairs.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong safety orientation and commitment to compliance.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
  • Minimum 5+ years of heavy haul transportation experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of FMCSA, DOT, and TXDOT regulations and best practices.
  • Advanced training in load securement, defensive driving, or heavy haul safety preferred.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be 25 years of age or older.
  • Prior experience managing interstate operations and deliveries, including multistate oversize/overweight moves.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and walk/stand for extended periods in steel-toed boots.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Must pass all pre-employment screenings including drug and nicotine testing per TAS policy.
  • Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment is preferred.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
  • TMS and ERP/Infor LN a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Position is at least 80% to 95% at a desk working with computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading. The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
