Key Responsibilities
Driving & Transport Duties
- Safely operate Class 1 (C+E) vehicles for milk collection and chilled distribution.
- Collect raw milk from dairy/farm locations, ensuring correct handling and hygiene procedures are followed at all times.
- Carry out chilled/refrigerated deliveries and collections, maintaining correct temperature control throughout transit.
- Follow planned routes and schedules, adapting efficiently to changing conditions or collection requirements.
- Ensure timely collections and deliveries while maintaining a professional driving standard.
Vehicle & Load Safety
- Conduct daily walk‑round vehicle checks, defect reporting, and basic maintenance checks.
- Ensure milk tankers, trailers, and refrigerated units are clean, safe, and legally compliant.
- Monitor and record temperatures for chilled loads in line with food safety standards.
- Secure and manage loads correctly to prevent contamination, damage, or spoilage.
Compliance & Documentation
- Comply fully with Drivers’ Hours, Working Time Directive (WTD), and Tachograph regulations.
- Accurately complete all required paperwork, including collection records, delivery notes, temperature logs, and defect reports.
- Follow strict hygiene and food safety procedures for milk collection and chilled transport.
- Adhere to company policies, DVSA standards, and site‑specific rules at farms, depots, and delivery locations.
Customer Interaction & Professional Conduct
- Represent the company in a professional and courteous manner at all locations.
- Communicate clearly with farm staff, site operators, and transport planners.
- Report any issues such as access difficulties, hygiene concerns, delays, or quality problems promptly.
Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibility
- Follow all health & safety procedures, including biosecurity measures when visiting farms.
- Use PPE as required and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
- Report hazards, incidents, or near misses immediately.
- Drive responsibly with consideration for fuel efficiency and environmental impact.
Flexibility & Additional Duties
- Work flexible hours, including nights, early mornings, weekends, and bank holidays as required by milk collection schedules.
- Provide cover for additional routes or chilled work during busy periods.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support transport operations.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Valid UK HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence
- Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card
- Previous experience in milk collection, farm collections, or chilled/refrigerated haulage preferred
- Comfortable with lone working and rural locations
- Good understanding of food safety and hygiene procedures
- Strong time management and communication skills
- Positive, reliable, and safety‑focused attitude
