High School Librarian

TITLE: High School Librarian

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

POSITION SUMMARY:

The high school librarian manages and supervises the building library and promotes the use of the library media center to students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage daily operations of the school library, including circulation, cataloging, and inventory of textbooks, library books and Chromebooks using the library management system.
• Maintain and develop diverse print and digital library collections aligned with curriculum and students' interests.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to support classroom instruction and research projects.
• Provide instruction in research skills, information literacy, and digital citizenship.
• Assist students and staff in locating and evaluating information resources.
• Promote reading and literacy through displays, programs, and library events.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive library environment that supports independent learning and collaboration.
• Supervise library aides, volunteers, or student assistants as assigned.
• Manage library budgets, materials ordering, and resource subscriptions.
• Guide students in reading for understanding, pleasure and the exploration of diverse viewpoints and genres.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Physically able to occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
• Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as
  required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.
• Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at
  twenty (20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Prefer Masters in Library Information Science or a minimum of 36 hours in library media-oriented courses in print and non-print selection, cataloging, reference media utilization and production, curriculum and administration.

EXPERIENCE: Academic background and coursework in Library Media, Successful teaching experience, and effective work with secondary students.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES: Valid Washington State teaching certificate with Librarian endorsements

CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING: That which is required to be effective in the position and to maintain certification.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Starting Date: 2026-2027 School Year (182 total contracted days)
Salary: $63,912 - $122,620 annual salary. Based on education and experience Per OEA CBA - 2026-2027 Salary Schedule
Retirement: Pension through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems
