Position Purpose:

The HIM Applications Analyst supports the core functions of the department, this will surround CDI, coding and operations. The analyst is responsible for maintenance of all HIM Meditech applications (CAS, HIM, SCA) as well as any third party HIM applications (CDR2/LYNX/3M). The HIM Application Analyst will be responsible for providing support and problem resolution for all HIM technical issues. This position will be a technical liaison between HIM and IS as well as other areas of the facility.


Key Responsibilities [List of material responsibilities and essentials duties which must be completed in achieving the objectives of the position]

  • Level 1:
  • Responsible for processing all HIM KACE tickets

o Will work in conjunction with IS staff as necessary to resolve tickets

  • Serves as the contact for provider documentation draft/cancellation requests and will process accordingly
  • Build and maintain all HIM Meditech modules

o CAS

o HIM

o SCA

  • Assist with research and merging duplicate patient medical records as necessary (this will be in Meditech as well as legacy systems)
  • Perform required testing/updates for all HIM applications
  • Provide technical assistance for CDR2/Lynx/3M
  • Responsible for the Meditech patient portal

o Serve as contact for facility and community

o Assist users with portal access, navigation and proxy access

o Process all proxy requests as defined in policy

o Process all user requests

  • Monitor ECM folder failures

o Correct documentation information and accurately attach to patient accounts

  • Monitor Nuance transcription

o Correct failed documentation and process to accurately attach to patient accounts

o Edit transcription files as requested

o Work with transcription company in regard to any technical issues/updates/testing

  • Process incoming MAXMD patient documentation, ensuring that documents are consumed to the appropriate patient account
  • Performs required APC/CPT/DRG updates in Meditech and 3M
  • Assist in training/navigation of applications
  • Serves as initial IT support to HIM department (all technical concerns should be communicated to HIM Application Analyst prior to contacting IT).
  • Assists in the definition of test conditions. Helps develop accurate and complete test plans.
  • Prioritizes tasks effectively
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to broaden and deepen knowledge base and proficiencies.
  • This position acts as an interface and point of liaison between Health Information Management and Information Systems as well as other departments of the facility as needed.
  • Must be organized and will work with some independence; frequently interacting with clinicians, hospital staff and others in the HIM department.
  • Level 2: In addition to the above responsibilities, a Level 2 HIM Applications Analyst must also perform the following:
  • Assists in the coordination of activities and data collection with requesting providers and departments.
  • In support of upgrades and implementations, this person may help lead projects and assist in configuration, and deployment of software and hardware.
  • Level 3: In addition to the above responsibilities, a Level 3 HIM Applications Analyst must also perform the following:
  • Assists in the coordination of activities and data collection with requesting providers and departments.
  • In support of upgrades and implementations, this person may help lead projects and assist in configuration, and deployment of software and hardware.
  • Responsible to write detailed documentation and training materials

Qualifications [Statements regarding minimum educational and experience qualifications, required proficiencies with specialized knowledge, computer proficiencies, military service, required certifications, etc.]

  • Demonstrated high level analytic, implementation, and troubleshooting skills over a broad range of systems.
  • Must be familiar in HIPAA\HITEC

Education:

  • Level 1: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in HIM or IT strongly preferred. Certification or experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Level 2: Associates degree in HIM or IT.
  • Level 3: Must have a Bachelor's degree in HIM or IT.

Experience:

  • Level 1: A minimum of 3+ years technical application support experience, preferably in Healthcare; may consider a minimum of 3 years in patient care, ancillary or revenue cycle departments.
  • Level 2: In addition to the above qualifications, a Level 2 HIM Applications Analyst must have a minimum of 5 years technical application support experience, preferably in Healthcare.
  • Level 3: In addition to the above qualifications, a Level 3 HIM Applications Analyst must have a minimum of 7 years technical application support experience, preferably in Healthcare.

  • Ability to sit, type, and view a PC screen most of day.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for periods of 2 hours or more.

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to write detailed technical and non-technical documentation.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills, and the ability to effectively provide training and support.
