Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Performs validations of new instruments, software, and informatics systems
  • Provides advanced support in troubleshooting methodologies, instrumentation, and equipment, and coordinates corrective action with vendors
  • Develops and updates laboratory procedures

General Responsibilities

  • Performs specimen processing, test performance, and reports test results
  • Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patients' test results
  • Ensures that histocompatibility laboratory tests are in compliance with department procedures and all pertinent regulatory requirements
  • Follows quality control, quality assurance, safety, and infection control procedures
  • Conducts instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting
  • Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies
  • Documents all corrective action taken when the test systems deviate from established performance specifications
  • Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are testing in the same manner as patients samples
  • Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activity, instrument, and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed
  • Participates in continuing educational opportunities and disseminates new information and skills to others

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 3 years of clinical laboratory experience
  • 2 years of histocompatibility experience

Preferred

  • 5 years of clinical laboratory experience
  • 3 years of histocompatibility experience
  • Experience in Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) antibody testing and analysis

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

  • Ability to sit for Certified Histocompatibility Specialist exam upon reaching 5 years of Histocompatibility experience after date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
