Purpose and Scope of the Job
- The Home Care Nurse assistant shall provide direct and indirect age-specific care for assigned patients outside hospital facilities.
- The Home Care Nurse assistant shall employ her skills and knowledge to provide Nursing Care to patients at their place of residence outside hospital’s facility as per scheduled shifts or inside the hospital.
- Treatments and procedures provided shall be in accordance with the physician’s orders and based on the scope of service.
- The Home Care Nurse assistant has to abide by the Home Care program, workflow, schedule and instructions.
- The Home Care Nurse assistant shall attend the patient and help his/ her in their activities of daily living and promote comfort and better quality of life.
- The Home Care Nurse assistant shall be accountable for the clinical, educational, and quality of care provided to the patients, using as reference the policies, procedures, guidelines and professional practice of hospital.
- The Home Care Nurse assistant shall work as per scheduled shifts assigned by the Home Care Supervisor under the supervision of the home care administration.
Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards
- Clinical Responsibilities:
- Prevent the spread of infection at home, in the client’s room.
- Teach and aware family members on all safety measures to be taken for the newborn or the elderly patient.
- Document all activities done on the patient data sheet.
- Inform the supervisors and families in case of any changes or deterioration in the client’s condition.
- Bath the client (newborn, bedridden, ambulatory patient)
- Dress the client (from assisting to total dependent dressing)
- Assist the patient to eliminate his feces (assisting with bedpans and urinals, providing incontinent care as needed, assisting patient to bathroom)
- Do bedding for bedridden patients.
- Catheter care (emptying drainage bags, recording intake and output)
- Assist in feeding (feeding patient, serving meals, assisting with hydration needs, prepare formulas for newborn)
- Help with Range of motion exercises and position the patient when needed to prevent bed sores.
- Assist in ambulation or transporting patients in wheelchairs and ambulation with walkers and canes.
- Organize patient’s room, preserve his personal belonging.
- Read for the patient if required.
- Perform Postmortem care when needed.
- Report any misuse or damage of any instrument or equipment used.
- Management Responsibilities:
- Charge all consumables used.
- Confine to the borrow-lend procedure for all leased equipment.
- Offer Patient and family education when needed.
- Establish good communication with patients and family.
- Check the emergency kit/nursing bag on monthly basis and replace used items.
- Manage patients with infectious diseases when applicable.
- Develop a prevention program according to the patient’s case (prevention of bed sores, prevention of pneumonia…etc.) following the Home Care guidelines.
- Respect patient’s confidentiality and privacy.
- Preserve patient’s dignity
- Value patient’s cultural beliefs and religious needs.
- Ability to perform lifting.
- Ability to bath the patient alone.
- Ability to deal with heavy weight patients.
- Change patient’s position when needed. Ability to work for extended period of time while standing.
- Apply the ergonomic guidelines while working.
- Able to work with psychiatric patients
- Able to work under stress.
- Able to travel with patients when needed for an agreed period.
- Able to adapt to the patient’s home environment.
- Able to attend training when needed outside the work hours.
- Able to work on shift rotation basis.
- Able to stay in the house of the patient when needed for an agreed period and special conditions.
Qualifications, Competences and Skills
Education:
- Registered Diploma Nurse (GNM) or any equivalent Degree (BSN).
- Valid BLS Certification from AHA /ASHI
Experience:
- Has at least two (2) years of experience as Assistant Nurse or Registered Nurse.
- Preferably to have experience as Home Care Nurse assistant would be advantageous.
Licensure: Applicable – MOH Assistant Nurse License
Language:
- Able to read and write in English
- Able to communicate in English with preference to Arab speakers.
Computer Proficiency: Basic Computer skills.
