- A Home Care Duty Medical Officer (DMO) provides direct patient care (assessment, diagnosis, treatment, emergency response) within a home setting or clinic, manages records, educates families, coordinates with other staff (nurses, specialists), and ensures adherence to protocols, often handling shifts, administrative tasks, and public health aspects like counseling and preventive care, focusing on continuity and quality of care. Core Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment & Diagnosis: Conduct medical exams, diagnose illnesses/injuries, and create treatment plans.
- Direct Patient Care: Administer treatments/medications, perform minor procedures, and respond to emergencies.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work with nurses, specialists, and families; educate patients/caregivers.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed medical records and reports.
- Emergency Response: Provide immediate care and stabilization during acute events.
Home Care Specifics (Often at PHCs/Community Level)
- Community Health: Guide community health workers, organize clinics, and provide preventive care.
- Referral Management: Screen for specialized needs (mental health, dental, etc.) and refer to higher centers.
- Public Health Duties: Handle morbidity data, participate in policy, and offer counseling on chronic conditions.
