Haven Home Care | We're hiring Home Health Aides in Stark and Summit Counties, Ohio
Who We're Hiring
-
STNAs (active or expired license)
-
HHA Certificate holders (30+ hours)
-
Home Health Aides or Nurse Aides with 1+ year at one company
-
New to caregiving? We train you free.
WHERE THE WORK IS
STARK COUNTY: Alliance, Brewster, Canton, Dalton, Massillon, Navarre, North Canton, Paris
SUMMIT COUNTY: Akron, Barberton, Copley, Cuyahoga Falls, Hartville, Hudson, Kent, New Franklin, Norton, Rootstown, Silver Lake, Stow, Tallmadge, Uniontown
Here's what you need to know: Most of our clients are in Summit County (Akron area). We're growing in Stark County but have fewer clients there right now.
What this means for you:
-
Open to BOTH counties = Faster start, more hours available
-
Stark County only = Longer wait for your first client
We'll ask your preference in the application. We match based on how far you'll travel, not just county lines.
THE JOB
You help people in their homes as a Home Health Aide. Mostly older adults. Baths, getting dressed, meals, light cleaning, errands, companionship. This is physical work — you help people move around and stand most of the day. If you need help doing these tasks, tell us. We can talk about what might work.
You do NOT give medicine or do medical tasks. That's for nurses.
THE PAY
$16-18/hour depending on your license and experience
STNA license: $18/hour
HHA certificate or experience: $16-18/hour based on interview
Free training pathway: $16/hour
Working with a private pay client you referred:
-
HHA: $19/hour
-
STNA: $20/hour
10% extra on holidays
Drive time BETWEEN clients: Paid
Drive time TO first client or FROM last client: Not paid
Paid every 2 weeks. Direct deposit. W-2 employment.
YOUR PAY CAN GROW
You get 3 chances for raises in your first 2 years:
90-day review: +$0.50/hour
1-year review: +$0.50/hour more
2-year review: +$1.00/hour more
That's $2.00/hour more if you hit all three.
Miss one? It carries over to your next review. You can still earn it.
What this could look like:
HHA starting at $16/hour:
→ After 90-day review: $16.50
→ After 1-year review: $17.00
→ After 2-year review: $18.00
STNA starting at $18/hour:
→ After 90-day review: $18.50
→ After 1-year review: $19.00
→ After 2-year review: $20.00
If you start higher because of experience, your increases stack on top.
How raises work:
At your 90-day, 1-year, and 2-year reviews, you fill out an evaluation form. You grade yourself first on 14 items. Then you sign it. Then we grade you on the same items.
If you get all 1s (highest rating) on every item, you get the raise. No tricks — just do these things well:
SHOWING UP:
-
Be on time
-
Clock in and out (app or phone)
-
Follow call-off steps if you can't make a shift
CLIENT CARE:
-
Follow policies
-
Accept clients that match the limits YOU gave us
-
Report incidents within 24 hours
-
Get good feedback from clients
STAYING IN TOUCH:
-
Answer office calls and texts quickly
-
Send updated documents when we ask (insurance, license, training)
-
Complete feedback forms when sent
Do these things? The raise is automatic. We don't hold it back from good Home Health Aides.
BONUSES
$100 after 30 days with perfect attendance (all shifts on time, no call-offs)
$300 when you refer a Home Health Aide who stays — $100 when they work 60 hours, $200 more when they work 200 hours
$75-$1,500 when you refer a private pay client (depends on their hours)
You can refer family members — parents, grandparents, anyone. Same bonuses apply.
FOUR WAYS TO QUALIFY AS AN HHA
Way 1: You have an STNA license (fastest)
Starting pay: $18/hour
What you need: STNA license in Ohio — active or expired.
Timeline: 1-3 days if you move fast.
Why faster: You already passed the state test. That's what your license means. Other Home Health Aides take a written and skills test with us. You don't.
Steps:
-
Apply with your STNA license number
-
Phone talk (20 minutes)
-
Short online questionnaire
-
Sign your paperwork online
-
Online orientation + document verification (30-40 minutes)
-
Fingerprinting
Way 2: You have an HHA certificate
Starting pay: $16-18/hour based on interview
What you need: HHA certificate, 30+ hours, signed by RN (unless completed online).
Timeline: 5-8 days to working.
Steps:
-
Apply and send your certificate
-
Phone talk (20 minutes)
-
Short online questionnaire
-
Take the HHA test at our Cuyahoga Falls office (scheduled with you)
-
Sign your paperwork online
-
Online orientation + document verification (30-40 minutes)
-
Fingerprinting
Way 3: You have Home Health Aide or Nurse Aide experience but no certificate
Starting pay: $16-18/hour based on interview
What you need: 1+ year at one company as a Home Health Aide or Nurse Aide.
Timeline: 5-8 days after we verify your experience.
Steps:
-
Apply — include that company's name, phone number, your supervisor's name and title, and dates you worked there
-
We call your old employer to verify your experience
-
Once verified, we schedule your phone talk (20 minutes)
-
Short online questionnaire
-
Take the HHA test at our Cuyahoga Falls office (scheduled with you)
-
Sign your paperwork online
-
Online orientation + document verification (30-40 minutes)
-
Fingerprinting
Why we verify first: We don't want to waste your time on a phone interview if we can't confirm your experience. This protects both of us.
Way 4: You're new to Home Health Aide work
Starting pay: $16/hour
What you need: Willingness to help people. We teach everything else.
Timeline: 1-2 weeks to working.
Steps:
-
Apply
-
Phone talk (20 minutes)
-
Short online questionnaire
-
Complete free 32-hour online HHA training (at home, 6 days to finish, NOT paid)
-
Take the HHA test at our Cuyahoga Falls office (scheduled with you)
-
Sign your paperwork online
-
Online orientation + document verification (30-40 minutes)
-
Fingerprinting
If you don't finish training in 6 days, we close your application. If something comes up, text us right away.
About The Hha Test
Ohio requires all Home Health Aides to pass a competency test. This isn't our rule — it's the state's rule. The test has two parts: Written questions. Skills you show. You need 80% on both parts. The test is given in person at our Cuyahoga Falls office. We'll schedule a time with you.
Already passed an HHA test somewhere else? Show us your results. If you got 80% or higher, you skip the test.
STNAs skip the test entirely — your license (active or expired) proves you passed.
About Document Verification
Federal law requires us to verify your identity and work authorization. During your orientation video call, you'll show your original documents on camera. You choose which documents to bring — we'll send you the full list.
What You Need
Driver's license
Your own car with insurance that covers work driving
Pass background checks
Work at least 20 hours/week
Available between 6AM-8PM (most work is 8AM-5PM)
Legal right to work in the US
Must be at least 18 years old
How Client Matching Works
You tell us your limits during your phone interview: pets, smoking, travel distance, days and times. We only assign clients that match YOUR limits. Period.
The tradeoff: The more flexible you are, the faster you start. The more restrictive, the longer you wait.
We might have 5 clients available today. But if none match your limits, for you there are zero. This is YOUR timeline to control.
Three scenarios:
-
You're open to most things → Could start with 20-40 hours immediately
-
You have strict limits → May wait 1-2 weeks for a matching client
-
You're open but we have no matches today → You're first in line for the next one
During your first 2 weeks, we gauge reliability with fill-in shifts. But if permanent clients match you right away, we assign them right away.
After that, you have your regular clients — same people every week. Most Home Health Aides have 2-4 regulars. You can still pick up extra fill-ins if you want more hours.
What We Don't Have
No PTO — time off is unpaid, give us 1 month notice
No 401k
No health insurance
What Can Grow
Your pay — through the tier system based on performance
Your client relationships — same people every week
Your earnings — through bonuses and referrals
One Home Health Aide has been here 18 years. If you want to change your limits later, just let us know.
