Job Responsibilities
- Embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Deliver the required curriculum; demonstrating accurate and up-to-date knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
- Plan and deliver quality lessons to motivate students, creating and utilising appropriate materials and classroom environment to cater for different learning styles.
- Show written evidence of planning and preparation on request; establish and maintain records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment plans etc.
- Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
- Teach students assigned according to their individual needs using appropriate teaching strategies that meet student needs and abilities (e.g., late-entering students, ESL, low academic ability, gifted and talented).
- Set and mark work; assess, record and report on the academic development, progress and attainment of students, using assessment to ensure the curriculum meets the individual student's needs.
- Display competence in using media and technology in the classroom.
- Promote the general progress and well being of students and provide guidance on educational matters.
- Communicate with external entities where appropriate (e.g., Ministry of Education officials).
- Participate in appraisal and performance management procedures and continuing professional development (CPD).
- Work alongside colleagues on the preparation and development of teaching materials, resources, courses of study and pastoral arrangements.
- Participate in, and lead where appropriate, the co curricular and extra curricular programmes in the school, promoting good working relationships through active leadership and sharing of ideas, materials and experiences.
- Monitor and supervise safe and appropriate student behavior; plan and implement strategies to encourage self discipline and manage disruptive behaviour.
- Model and encourage cultural awareness and understanding, promoting a love of learning.
- Assist in the planning and organising of school events and functions (e.g., inter house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days).
- Communicate and meet with parents regularly, promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents informed of students' progress while respecting confidentiality of student related information.
- Initiate effort and energy beyond the typical workday when additional commitment is required.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Perform other duties as requested by direct and dotted line reporting line managers or supervisors.
- Homeroom teachers who are interested in additional responsibilities as English or Math subject leaders are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor degree in Classroom Education / Education or Bachelor's Degree + PGCE in Education.
- Strong communication skills, verbal & written.
- Good ICT skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- IELTS Academic score of 7.5.
- Minimum 2 years teaching experience in reputed schools, with experience as a Homeroom Teacher.
