Horizons at GT - Group Leader (Elementary & Middle)

About Horizons At Georgia Tech

Horizons at Georgia Tech is a summer learning program built around one simple belief: kids thrive when they have strong relationships, consistent routines, and adults who show up with care and purpose.

We support children of limited financial means through a high-quality experience that builds academic skills and whole-child growth. Scholars build confidence, problem-solving skills, and a sense of community responsibility. Every scholar also learns to swim as part of our commitment to safety and confidence-building.

Job Overview

Summer Learning Group Leaders are the heartbeat of the day-to-day scholar experience. You are the consistent adult who helps kids feel known, safe, and ready to learn. You support instruction and learning stations, then bring the energy that keeps transitions smooth and culture strong through structured play, community circles, quick games, and simple routines that help kids regulate and re-focus.

This role is ideal for high-energy, caring adults who believe structure and joy can exist at the same time. If you love building relationships, guiding groups, and helping kids have a summer they will remember for the right reasons, you will thrive here.

What You Will Do

  • Build strong relationships and belonging through daily connection routines (greetings, check-ins, positive narration).
  • Reinforce consistent routines and expectations so scholars feel secure and learning time stays protected.
  • Use proactive behavior supports and quick resets (pre-correcting, proximity, structured choices, helper roles, short movement or breathing resets).
  • Support instruction by running learning stations, guiding small groups, and giving 1:1 support as directed.
  • Lead smooth transitions and keep movement safe and organized with clear directions and consistent countdowns.
  • Keep a back pocket toolkit of engagement tools like call-and-response, chants, 30–90 second energizers, and brief regulation breaks.
  • Facilitate structured recess games that are inclusive, safe, and clearly explained, with strong supervision and positive sportsmanship.
  • Support meals, arrival, dismissal, and field trips as part of a whole-day youth program team.

What Success Looks Like

  • Scholars feel seen, supported, and excited to participate.
  • Routines are consistent, transitions are smooth, and learning time stays protected.
  • Recess and movement breaks are structured, safe, and fun.
  • You communicate clearly, follow through, and help the classroom team function as one unit.

Qualifications

  • Has completed at least 1 year in college
  • Experience working with children in a structured setting (schools, camps, OST, tutoring, coaching, or youth programs).
  • Strong relationship-building skills and comfort guiding groups with warmth and clear expectations.
  • Ability to stay calm, consistent, and solutions-oriented in a busy environment.
